TEDxUUM is an independently organized TED event which aims to build a platform for great minds from different background to share their powerful ideas. This year's event is being organized second year in a row by a group of talented individuals who worked together and collectively under the umbrella of same goal which is ideas worth spreading. This year’s theme is ‘Prism’. Prism divides the light into colors of rainbow and each rainbow is individual to the viewer. Each viewer sees their own colors, their own reflection of the light. By this event we aimed to build a platform to let our speakers to share their ideas in the form of lights and let the audience experience the rainbow of ideas. Let viewers see their own interpretations, their own reflection of the light.

AHMAD HAKIIM BIN JAMALUDDIN

Student, MSc(Statistics)
Hakiim currently pursues MSc(Statistics) in Statistical Pattern Recognition at UUM. He was awarded with Chancellor and Vice Chancellor Gold Medals previously for his first class bachelor degree with honours majoring in Statistics from the same university. Prior to pursuing master’s degree, he worked as Equipment Integration Engineer at Osram Opto Semiconductors (M). His passion in helping others academically led him to pioneer a student unofficial society called SQS Community in his first year of bachelor degree. SQS Community focused on gathering all students at School of Quantitative Sciences to motivate each other academically and giving free tuition classes. Hakiim has been providing tuition classes for Statistics and Mathematics related courses for almost 6 years. He loves to simplify Statistics so that everyone easily understands it.

AMANDA LAU WENWEN

Student, Entrepreneur
Former President and student advisor of Enactus UUM. Represented Malaysia as the National Champion Team to participate in Enactus World Cup 2014 in Beijing. Amanda is actively involved in band performance as a singer and a keyboardist while doing Bachelor Degree in UUM. All of these opportunity make her realised that being a student is not just about performing well in academic, but getting ourselves prepared to contribute and finding passion is much more important. That is why she set up Candela Talent Center that focus on children's hidden talent and passion. She was hoping to develop them on the right track since young.

ANIS NADIA ISMAIL

Dentist, Editor, Writer
Dr. Anis Nadia Ismail was born in Penang in August 1992. A kampung girl at heart, she grew up loving arts and literature ever since she was a little girl. She began studying dentistry in Alexandria University, Egypt (2011-2013), and transferred to AIMST University in Kedah (2013-2016). Actively involved in volunteering work with Yalla Charity Organisation since 2012, she founded the first official branch in Malaysia in 2014. She has been awarded with Best Presenter Award at the ASEAN Regional Conference on Student Activism (RECONSA 2016). She is also the editor and writer for NSAIDS; Memoirs of Alexandria. Her writings have been published in various media, including The Star, and Champak4Gaza publication. She has self published a memoir called Notes from the Heart, comprising of articles and poetry that she wrote over the course of six years.

FADHILAH BINTI JAMALUDDIN

Fadhilah Jamaluddin, a young entrepreneur from Kedah. She received her First Class Degree (Bachelor of Business Mathematics with Honours) from Universiti Utara Malaysia. In university, she actively involved as a motivator and also tutor for the Mathematics and Financial Management courses. She has been awarded with the Excellent Student Award (Bachelor of Business Mathematics with Honours) in 2014. Because of her love and passion in education, she committed to pursue her study to the next level and received Master of Science (Mathematics), Universiti Utara Malaysia in 2017. Motivation is her soft spot where she believes that everyone has equal chance to succeed in this world.

Goo Kah Thart

Mr Goh Kah Thart has a master qualification in M.Sc in Computer Integrated Manufacturing from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (Distinction) from Purdue University, USA. He is professionally qualified as a registered financial planner and an associate estate planner practitioner. Mr Goh Kah Thart is also a managing director and Co-founder of GAFS Advisory Sdn. Bhd.

KANG XIAN WONG

Lawyer
Wong Kang Xian is 24 years old now and he is a cambering person at a litigation law firm. He has 1 sibling, a younger sister. He has been living and studying in Seremban since primary school. "Since young, I sincerely believe that life isn’t about finding yourself but life is about creating yourself. We all live only once. We should be responsible for our life and make it count. And My dream is to create meaningful and positive impact on society. During my secondary school, I studied at CHHS Seremban. In fact. I don’t like science subjects. So, during my age at 16, I decided to choose art class to pursue my dream. Although my dad opposed my decision, but I still believe that I have made a right decision. Eventually, I obtained 8As and 2Bs for my SPM examination. Despite the result, I chose to study at MMU because I believe in the quality of local university. "

KENNETH LAU

Lecturer
Kenneth Lau, currently a lecturer at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) under the Centre for Pre-University Studies since 2014. He was conferred a Bachelor of Science Degree (Chemistry & Biology) from Campbell University with a summa cum laude (The highest honour). He had won several local and international academic awards during his undergraduate and postgraduate studies which included the inaugural ‘IKM Graduate Chemistry Medal Award’. Likewise, he also holds a Master Degree of Biotechnology from University of Malaya. Currently, he is perusing his PhD degree at University of Malaya under the Department of Chemistry in which, his research focuses on the fabrication of biosensor for clinical diagnosis. Kenneth is also a key speaker for the Centre for Pre-University Studies and conducted several public talks on science related topics and also freshmen talks on ‘8 Tips to Excel’. Furthermore, he led the programme and speaking team for TEDxTAR UC from 2016 to 2017.

MOSTAFA HUSSEIN MOHAMMED HUSSEIN MUTAHER

Undergraduate Student
Mostafa is 23 years old and born in Yemen. He studies Business Administration with minor in Logistics at UUM since 2016 and currently in his fourth semester. He loves art, science, and the beauty of nature. He is interested in reading books about history, religion, and science. He lived in a war zone which was the most dreadful period of a lifetime that any human being can live, but at the same time he learned many lessons and gained unforgettable experiences. Throughout the war, they struggled and they endeavored, he has lost some relatives and friends because of war but actually that only elevated his faith, patience, and enthusiasm to work harder and spend his maximum efforts. He is currently the Head of Public relations department in UNESCO UUM club. He is also Public Relations Executive in International Student Society and a committee member in Yemen Society in UUM. He recently got a permanent membership of Beta Gamma Sigma chapter UUM.

Puteri Nur Syafawati Binti Mohd Shamshir

Undergraduate Student
Puteri Nur Syafawti, well known as Riri. She is 22 years old, comes from Cheras, Selangor. An Economics major in UUM. Former Vice President of Economics Student Association, COB UUM. Also participated in mobility program outbound to University of Tsukuba, Japan. Endearing and bubbly personality. A firm believer that life experience as a source of knowledge and encouragement. Her goal is to inspire people towards moving forward in life and overcome depression. “If I want things to change, I have to change first”

ROWENA MORAIS

Editorial, Communication and Content Specialist
Rowena specialises in executive education, content development, publishing and marketing. She is Editor and Programme Director at Vertical Distinct, a media and learning organisation that provides educational resources to both Human Resource and Technology professionals through a variety of articles, podcasts, interviews and a range of internationally accredited and in-demand technical and professional courses offered throughout Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Rowena is also best known for having launched and run HR Matters Magazine for eight years as well as offering the HR Breakfast Roundtable series since 2010, a premier gathering of senior HR leaders across Malaysia. A ghostwriter, she also helps small businesses, professionals as well as entrepreneurs to get their messages out clearly and to strengthen their brand through services related to writing, editing and content marketing.

SIRHAJWAN IDEK

Language Teacher
Sirhajwan Idek is an English language teacher at Keningau Vocational College. He became the first Asian to win International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Excellence in Teaching Award in Paris on September 2017 and became the first Sabahan to be in the Top 50 finalists for Global Teacher Prize in 2017. He also won two global awards for English language educators, Macmillan Teachers at my Hearts 2016 and Express Publishing IATEFL in 2017. He was the recipient of National Teacher Icon award in 2017. His passionate in getting his students to develop their self-esteem and abilities and unleash their talent and ideas. He first started with training the school team to win the English debate tournament for the first and this success became the first of the multiple accomplishments of his students in English language competitions, innovation and entrepreneurship contests.
