As a part of the global TEDWomen discussions this year, TEDxUI will host the TEDxUIWomen. TEDWomen is a three day conference with a focus on the power of women and girls to be creators and change-makers. The 2017 edition aim to explore the theme of "Bridges."

Over the course of the sessions, speakers will share ideas from medical to sociological, science, technology and design, as well as experiences and perspectives that offer bridges across race, background, belief, opinion and other differences that divide.

Ayomide Shittu

Lawyer and Entrepreneur
Ayo Shittu is a Business Lawyer, Advisor and an Entrepreneur. Until recently, she practiced bankruptcy litigation at Thompson & Knight, LLP before deciding to spend more time in Nigeria working with business owners, and University students on job readiness skills. She currently splits her time between Houston, TX and Lagos for her business, Aso Ebi City, a diaspora-focused business focused on bringing Nigerian wedding traditions into the 21st century. She is passionate about youth capacity development, travel in and out of the African continent and connecting the African Diaspora.

Chichi Umeasaka

CEO/Founder, 9ineteen. Radio show host and social entrepreneur
Chinemenma Umeseaka fondly called Chichi or Aunty Chichi by her teenagers is the foremost Teenage Coach in Nigeria. She's a 33 year old wife and mother of four children. She's been married for 12 years and counting. Chichi is a Teenage Coach and through her initiative "9ineteen Works", has reached out to lots of teens in Lagos State, Abia State, Bayelsa, Abuja, and so many others. Aunty Chichi is a Journalist by training; she’s a graduate of Mass Communication from Abia State University, Uturu.

Cynthia Mene

Entrepreneur
Cynthia Mene is a serial social entrepreneur. Her ambitious start-up record includes “Ever Glow”, a successful liquid soap company that filled the niche for a non-toxic, plant-derived and biodegradable dish soap in Nigeria, Kadosh Production Company (KPC), a cassava processing plant that has the potential to revolutionize, the cassava industry in Nigeria by yielding about 30 per cent more food per unit for human consumption, while improving the livelihood of women farmers through processing and packaging of cassava finished products. Her third venture recently started in 2016, known as Inspire Africa, a Pan-African Institution established to deliver high impact entrepreneurship and leadership education to African youths.

Dr. Ola Brown

CEO, Flying Doctors Nigeria
Dr Ola Orekunin is a medical doctor, a trainee helicopter pilot and an entrepreneur who founded West Africa’s first indigenous air ambulance service, The Flying Doctors Nigeria which saves hundreds of lives across the region every year. She is extremely passionate about healthcare/entrepreneurship in Africa and works with various foundations, charities and governments to improve standards of healthcare. Dr Ola was born and raised in the UK. She studied medicine and surgery at the Hull-York Medical School after which she worked in Acute Medicine across the UK. She then went on to be awarded the Japanese MEXT scholarship which allowed her to further her studies in Tokyo, Japan. She has published two medical textbooks ‘EMQ’s in Paediatrics’ and ‘Pre-Hospital Care For Africa’ as well as articles in the British Medical Journal, New York Times and the Huffington Post.

Folu Ajayi

Fashion designer and Lawyer
Folu Ajayi is a lawyer, fashion designer and fashion illustrator. At 15, she was accepted to study Law at the University of Ibadan. In her second year at the University, she found House of Dabira Ltd and spent the rest of her University years juggling business and school. At 20, she was a semi-finalist for the Anzisha Prize for the Young Entrepreneur and at 21, she won The Zinkata Red Carpet Challenge and dressed Dakore Egbuson-Akande for the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards. She went to Nigerian Law School, Lagos campus and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2016. At 23, she is currently the youngest 2017 Nigerian Mandela Washington Fellow.

Kehinde Kadiri

Humanitarian photographer
Dr Kadiri Kehinde Kadijat is an accomplished Academia and a seasoned Scholar and teacher of Mass Communication who has found deep passion for health communication, humanitarianism and photography. She believes photography can be used to set world agenda and enlighten people on how to make the world a better place. These thoughts led her to the documenting of lives of people in rural communities within Kwara State through photographs on her various social media handles such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Kadiri documents on both the mundane and imperative issues in the rural communities she visited.
