The theme of our 2017 TEDxKangar event is Body, Mind, and Soul. In this event, we aim to spread ideas on one's personal and professional development which both are interrelated athletically, intellectually, and morally. The ideas will help our audience understand, inspire and eventually create a shift in our mindset to be the best person we can be.

Cherch Kang Foo

Foo Cherch Kang (CK) - Lecturer of Interior Architecture, School of Architecture and Built Environment, UCSI University. A design educator that concerns about the social inclusion in design. CK’s works show in the search of the role of design for social sustainability through collaboration with locals. He believes that locality can be a resource to enlighten institutional system. Creative industry is tied up with middle-class, that always serves the mass-audience in city, under thematic of ‘style’ and ‘branding’. However, creative industry is always absent in rural places due to the low population of middle class leads to low demand in market. Even though creative industry has been successfully promoted some rural places in the intention of tourism, it brings not much effects on the majority of local people. CK is currently working on the objective to re-define role of creative industry for social sustainability which shows the engagement between local community and design institution presents the quality and self-confident of local place, and how this quality constructs a valuable resource to inform the creative process. With the passion in introducing the traditional knowledge into the framework of an institutional knowledge system, CK will be bringing us the inspiring talk on [The Unseen Locality]. Helmy Khaled Mohamed

Dr Khaled Helmy - A doctor (Physician) in Kangar, Perlis. Dr Khaled is a person who loves to discover new things and new culture. He believes that nothing is impossible. Throughout the 30 years in medical, biomedical and teaching fields, Dr Khaled has gained many skills and learned lots of new things to fulfill his job requirement such as organisational planning, leadership, motivational skills and attention to details. With all the experiences, he also learned to deal with all the emotions caused by his busy working life. Generally, we all know doctors through normal visits but we never know what’s behind the door of the Intensive Care Unit and how difficult and challenging the situation can be. Holding the belief that we couldn’t change the yesterday but we can enjoy today and plan for good tomorrow, Dr Khaled is going to amaze us with the talk themed [How to take fast and wise decision]. Hooi Seong Lee

Mr Lee Hooi Seong – a father of three and the leader of the caring parents at a primary school. With the aim of making school a better place to be, Seong will be sharing on why should parents join caring parents. With his idea, he wishes to spread an awareness to the local community, so that everyone knows the existence of this activity which is important to school and children. The contribution of time and volunteer to participate are simply worth it. Every parents and guardian have the ability to make a change and influence a better learning environment by sharing the love we have towards our own children to all of the children in the school. It has been almost a year and the team has grown to about 30 people now. Seong will be sharing on the guides his team hold in their practices. Kin Thang Tan

Mr Tan Kin Thang - Mr Tan received his early education in Kangar before pursuing his higher education in the Universiti Malaya. Afer graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, he taught Mathematics at the Sekolah Sains in Bohor Pulai, Perlis. In 1983, he joined the Federal Schools Inspectorate, a division of the Ministry of Education. Afer retirement in 2006, he continues to be active in education and social work. His interests include reading, travelling and he is a strong advocate in holistic education and life-long learning. He believes that life is to be lived to the fullest. To accomplish this, one has to study hard, work smart and invest wisely in the resources and gifs that one has been given. But life is also full of storms, challenges, adversities and problems that can make it difficult and painful. Mr Tan hopes his views and experiences in dealing with relational problems and challenges can help people to deal with problems in a calm and positive way. He is going to enlighten you to live a more fulfilling life with an inspiring talk themed [Problem Solving: Another Perspective]. Yoke Kqueen Cheah

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cheah Yoke Kqueen is the Deputy Director for the Centre of Industry Relations and Networks (CiRNeT), UPM. He is also the faculty member in the Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics Unit, Department of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is currently the Technical Advisor on Molecular Diagnostic to Subang Jaya Medical Centre. Dr. Cheah is a Chartered Scientist and Fellow of Institute of Biomedical Science, UK and also the Chartered Biologist with Royal Society of Biology, UK.
