You are cordially invited to the next TEDxTheHague salon! Our July edition — themed Spirituality - Combining the Physical and Non-Physical Aspects of Ourselves — is curated by TEDxTheHague regular Anubhav Kandpal. Anubhav writes:

"My passion is to find balance, in all things. And to find balance in our lives, we must begin from ourselves. The balance between the two fundamental sides of who we are, is the starting point of understanding which leads forth into new dimensions of understanding. I'm aware that this could sound cheesy or poetic but it's a strong part of my being and personal philosophy. From the many philosophers and spiritualists I have read and listened to, this one theme is echoed by them all. "

We'll explore this theme by watching and discussing the following videos:

Jeff Lieberman: Science and spirituality
Jeff Lieberman, an MIT-trained artist, scientist and engineer, makes a scientific argument for mystical experience. He asks us to challenge our perception of what we are, our relationship to the universe, and our relationship to one another. Our minds are "thought-generating machines." What we would happen if we could turn off the machine? If we could transcend our individual experience of the world?

Stacey Kramer: The best gift I ever survived
Stacey Kramer offers a moving, personal, 3-minute parable that shows how an unwanted experience -- frightening, traumatic, costly -- can turn out to be a priceless gift.

Alan Watts: What awakening means
In this clip Alan Watts explains what "Awakening" means. And no, it doesn't have anything to do with saying Namaste. Or finding significance in seeing the clock when it's 11:11. Or thinking that the placement of planets in the solar system somehow affects your mood and personality.

Guillaume Néry: The exhilarating peace of freediving
In this breathtaking talk, world champion freediver Guillaume Néry takes us with him into the ocean's depths. Meter by meter, he explains the physical and emotional impact of water pressure, silence and holding your breath. His eloquent description of the underwater experience reveals the hidden poetry of freediving.
