In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amarjit Singh

He graduated with a Diploma in Computing from the Informatics College, NCC, UK and has a huge passion in bringing change to the world. Amarjit’s career path has been quite interesting, having worked for many organizations including 2 large world-class companies (IBM and Citibank) where he took up leading roles in the IS/IT division and these roles according to him, have given him an edge in his career. Amarjit decided to get into business himself after over 10 years of employment and successfully set up and launched three different IT startups. In late 2013, he was introduced to Bitcoin and the blockchain and after meeting with Andreas M. Antonopoulus last year, Amarjit was encouraged to sit for the highly acclaimed C4 certification and is now a Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP). He is currently pursuing his Masters Degree M.Sc in Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies from Nicosia University in Cyprus.

Andrew Barton

He was born in Sabah during the pre-Independence days and moved to England when he was 7. After finishing school, he trained as a Chartered Surveyor and spent his professional career managing large agricultural, property and sporting estates mostly in Scotland and in the South East of England. After 35 years in the profession he realised that he was not enjoying his work and started looking at options of getting into the Disaster reconstruction and Humanitarian aid sector and since the past 2 years, he has been doing voluntary work and is now on a disaster response team for an INGO.

Dipti Kumar

She is a lawyer who advocates the empowerment of underprivileged communities and is particularly involved heavily in issues pertaining to education and sexual abuse. As an advisor to Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family, she leads projects to empower youth and the underprivileged in several Commonwealth countries. She is also a UN Youth representative and led the UN Changemakers in Geneva - a movement which promotes youth involvement in policy making at the UN. Passionate about education and accessibility, Dipti is the founder and project manager of a social enterprise project in Nepal which aims to rehabilitate drug users and educate and feed homeless children. Dipti believes that perseverance and diversity of experiences make a winning combination.

Dr George Lee

He completed both his basic degree in Pharmacology and medical degree in Cambridge University and the Addenbrookes’ Clinical School of Medicine in Cambridge respectively. He then pursued his Surgical Career in Oxford and his Urological training at Imperial College School of Medicine in London before going on to become a consultant Urologist in the United Kingdom. He was then recruited to take on the position as the Associate Professor of Surgery at University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Currently, he is a clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Monash University, Sunway Campus and is a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur. He is also well known for his regular appearances on BFM radio station, RTM morning programmes and in respectable magazines. His compilations of essays have also become a national bestseller.

Dr Ken Yeong

He graduated with a PhD specializing in Medicinal Chemistry and has published original research and review papers in the area of drug design and discovery. He has also delivered talks in numerous international conferences and his current research interests include identifying novel molecules to treat age-related diseases, such as cancer and Alzheimer’s via a sirtuin enzyme modulation. Prior to joining Monash University as a lecturer in the School of Science, he has worked as a senior research scientist for a biotechnology company, and later for a multinational diagnostic research corporation.

Dr Shannon Frances

She brings her eclectic background, spanning academic research on plant genetics and work in the fields of biotech and bioinformatics as well as her experiences with wellness-oriented lifestyles, urban gardening and permaculture, to the search for a better way to live. She asserts that ordinary people, through the choices they make every day, can improve their lives and the lives of those around them. Her topic, “Expansive Well-Being” is an exploration of how we can face current personal challenges to create the solutions that result in a better world.

Kim Lim

She is the co-founder of The Picha Project, a social enterprise that aims to empower refugees that can cook in Malaysia through a food delivery and catering service. Prior to TEDx Monash, she has presented in events like TEDx Inti Subang, Brandfest 2017 and the 2nd Young Entrepreneur Carnival in Manila and has won THE EDGE Inspiring Young Leaders 2017 award recently. She was also a member of the delegation of the International Leadership Program under The Prince's Trust International. Apart from being greatly involved in the social sector work and economic empowerment, she is also a musician and a composer and was involved musically in movies like Ola Bola, J-Revolusi and Shuttle Life and events like the recent 2017 Paralympic SEA Games.

Mahi Ramakrishnan

She is an investigative journalist and a film maker, with 21 years of experience in the media industry under her belt. She has been involved in both print and broadcast media where she worked with some of the biggest media outlets in the world including the Associated Press, AFP, Time magazine, USA Today, Al Jazeera, BBC, Voice of America, ARD German TV and National Geographic. Six years ago, she started making investigative films which focused on topics such as trafficking of babies, migrant workers and refugees, the child sex trade and child marriages plus labour and she utilises her documentaries and various storytelling techniques to create awareness, organise communities, and to lobby ASEAN parliamentarians, heads of states, government bodies and non-governmental organisations to act on pressing issues and to initiate policy changes. Mahi is also an activist who works closely with the different refugee communities in Malaysia and together with her son, she has set-up an online platform to match refugees with jobs, with an aim to produce entrepreneurs from among the members of the refugee communities in the long run.

Melizarani T. Selva

She is a spoken word poet, journalist and poetry educator based in Kuala Lumpur. Having represented Malaysia in the International Literature Showcase in Norwich, she has also performed in six countries with notable performances at TEDxGateway in Mumbai and Ubud Writers and Readers Festival. Her first book titled ‘Taboo’ (2015) made Top 10 Best-Seller List on Malaysia’s No.1 Online Bookstore (MPH). To date, her poems have been translated in French by Éditions Jentayu and in Bahasa Malaysia by Malaysia’s National Institute of Language and Literature. Presently, she is the founder and showrunner of Kuala Lumpur's monthly spoken word poetry open mic, ’If Walls Could Talk’, a bilingual poetry slam, ‘Slamokrasi’ and teaches performance poetry at international and national schools.

Nurul Izzah Anwar

She is currently the second-term Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai and is the Vice-President as well as the Co-Election Director for People’s Justice Party (KEADILAN). As a strong proponent of human and civil rights with a special interest in prisoners of conscience, she has advocated on behalf of Malaysian political prisoners and human rights movements at the international level, most notably being an intervention in the main session at the 55th Commission on Human Rights in Geneva. She is also the founding member for the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement Caucus, a member of the Women’s Caucus and is a committee member of the Inter- Parliamentary Union Malaysia. In terms of media, she actively contributes to “Malaysiakini” and the Malay publication “Sinar” where she continuously provokes the electorate with dangerous thoughts on reforming the status quo.

Syed Saddiq

He is the co-founder and Youth Chief of BERSATU, a political party that he co-founded with former Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad at the age of 23. Being a debater, he has won multiple awards and competitions and is the current world record holder for being the highest scored debater(ESL) in the history of the World Universities Debate Championship. He was also a three-time Asia’s Best Debator and a three-time best debater of the Australasia, Cambridge and Oxford Inter Varsities Debate Championship (ESL) from 2012 to 2014. When he is not busy being a politician and debating at the world’s biggest competitions, he conducts lectures on debates and international relations and this is done regularly, both locally and abroad including Qatar, China and the Philippines. Recently, he was announced as the recipient of Oxford University’s distinguished Blavatnik School of Government scholarship, where he would be pursuing his Masters.
