The first TEDxTarnow event will take place on June 24, 2017 in the Ludwik Solski Theater in Tarnow. We start at 3.15pm /registration of attendees/, 4.00pm /TEDxTarnow Speakres – the main part of TEDxTarnow/, we finish late at night /afterparty session/.

The TEDxTarnow theme is The Future is Now! Invited speakers will answer the questions: Do we live in the future? Is the future now? or Is the future what will happen? The theme will be touched on by speakers who come from academic, technology and industry sector, people who blog about the movie, thinkers from different backgrounds and life spheres.

Maciej Ustarbowski

Former Government Protection Bureau officer, the cofounder of the Government Protection Bureau Group (BG)
Maciej Ustarbowski is the founder of BG Self-defense System, a trainer in many fields and activities: self-defense, intervention tactics and techniques, special driving, shooting, mountain climbing, survival, medical life-guard. Maciej Ustarbowski participated in foreign mission in Iraq and Afghanistan, awarded the medal of the Star of Iraq, the Star of Afghanistan, the NATO Medal for Peace Mission in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq. He is the former Commander of the Close Protection Team of the Embassy and the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Afghanistan. He is an instructor at the Military University of Technology in Warsaw. His TEDx talk is about the role of new technologies in everyday life. We will learn that depending on our own abilities can protect us in emergencies and safe thinking is the key issue.

Michał Leszek

Founder of Kruger&Matz brand
Michał Leszek did a degree in the Department of Economic Science at the University of Warsaw, specializing in Informatics and Econometrics. He started his career with AVON, Ernst&Young and Deloitte, where he specialized in financial analysis and merger and acquisition transactions. He worked on financial markets in Saxon Financials and his own company TWL Capital. In 2010 , after his successful career in the finance industry, he decided to return to his family company of Lechpol. He is the co-owner and the marketing manager of Kruger&Matz – the most significant brand in the Polish electronics market. His dream is to change Kruger&Matz into a global brand. Apart from his job, he is keen on psychology, spiritual development and motorcycle racing. His TEDx talk is about the psychology of success in the context of young people facing technology and social trend challenges.

Michał Ostrowicki

Philosopher, art theoretician, founder of the Academia Electronica
Since 2007 “Sidey Myoo” has been a scientific nickname used by Michał Ostrowiecki, the holder of a profesor doktor habilitowany degree. He is a philosopher and an art theoretician. He works at the Institute of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University in the Department of Aesthetics, as well as in the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. The subject of his interest is aesthetics as the theory of art, mainly modern and electronic art. Since 2003 he has been working on the philosophy of the web and futurology. In 2007 he founded the Academia Electronica – the non-institutionalised academy similar to a web university which acted in the Second Life environment. His TEDx talk is about the technological nature of humans. The talk will be held in the Ludwik Solski Theater in Tarnow and it will be simultaneously presented in the Academia Electronica.

Michał Wójcik

Recent high school graduate, inventor and constructor
Michał Wójcik has just graduated from the High School (III LO) in Tarnów. He is the youngest of the TEDxTarnow speakers and probably the youngest speaker of all TEDx events in Poland. He is passionate about robotics and astronomy. He was successful in international competitions in Austria and India. In the future he would like to do research on robotics and artificial intelligence. His TEDx talk is about the role of artificial intelligence in our life.

Piotr Sułkowski

Physicist and assistant professor in the Physics Department at the University of Warsaw
Piotr Sułkowski works on theoretical physics and conducts research in biophysics. He is an assistant professor in the Physics Department at the University of Warsaw. He also works in California Institute of Technology, USA. He conducted research at Harvard, Amsterdam and Bonn University. He got the ERC Starting Grant – the most prestigious scientific grant in the European Union. He runs a website “Ask a physicist.” He loves hiking, skiing and music. His TEDx talk is on the connections of physics and mathematics. He identifies some unexpected consequences of such connections.

Weronika Idzikowska

Organizer of social and cultural activities, the culture educator
She is a researcher and an educator of cultural activities in the process of social changes. She wants the social groups which are generally voiceless to be able to express themselves. She cooperates with Malopolska Institute of Culture in Krakow and the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute in Warsaw. She trains adults interested in long term actions in developing children’s communities and building their self-confidence. She spreads the common idea of equal rights and equal treatment for everyone: adults, youth and children. Her TEDx talk is about the importance of allowing children and youth to participate in social life debates and the possible consequences of depriving them of that role. W swoim wystąpieniu opowie o tym, jak i po co oddawać dzieciom i młodzieży głos w sprawach społecznie ważnych oraz jakie skutki dla naszej przyszłości może mieć wyłączenie dzieci i młodzieży z debaty społecznej i współdecydowania o świecie.
