Theme: The Global Local Continuum

This event occurred on
April 15, 2018
Hanover, New Hampshire
United States

The Global Local Continuum explores how we form unique identities and share them with the wider world. In today’s world, we are shaped by a powerful sense of globalization and yet also steeped in the local political, social and cultural contexts that touch our daily lives. In their own ways, our speakers reflect on the human experience as it plays out across global and local contexts.

Over two sessions, we'll strive to highlight ideas that inspire people and leave them with a new perspective through which to see their communities, both small and large.

Hank Knight

Director, Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies
The trauma of genocidal violence destroys the ties that bind the worlds we trust and find meaningful and worthy of our care. Survivors of this loss help us see these ties and invite us to recognize that these ties are mutual bonds that depend on others willing to accept responsibility for the repair and care of the world we share with one another. Dr. Knight is the Director of the Cohen Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State College, where he is the college's academic program, offering the nation's first undergraduate major in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Knight is also co-chair of the biennial Steven S. Weinstein Holocaust Symposium that he and Leonard Grob of Fairleigh Dickenson University co-founded in 1996. He serves on the Church Relations Committee of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC and several other national and international advisory committees related to Holocaust Studies.
