In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

David Young

Highschool teacher
Doctor Young is a professor at the English College in Prague. An interesting life tale which influences perhaps controversial views of this professor.

Frederick Sukama

Entrepreneur
In 1993 Frederick Sukama had to leave the Democratic Republic of Congo, his home country, and move to the Czech Republic, where he was granted political asylum 2 years later. Now a personal entrepreneur with a past career as a French teacher in secondary schools and at the University of Usti Nad Labem, Frederick has built a new life with his family in the Czech Republic. However, the experiences he underwent in his home country are still strongly imprinted on his mind, which is why he is here today to share the truth about what goes on in the DRC. This is not the first time Frederick has shared his personal story, seeing as he has been involved in several Amnesty International projects aiming at raising awareness about political refugees in different schools around the Czech Republic. With this talk Frederick will not only share his experience as a political refugee, but also expose the “dark side” of the DRC as well as the prejudices built around the country’s economic value.

Jakub Slíva

Cryptocurrency enthusiast
Jakub is 24 years old and is currently working as the Team Leader of the Display department at Médea Interactive. As a hobby, he helps his friends manage their Bitcoin investments. Today he is here to talk about enthusiasm and specifically how that can serve as a driving force towards success. He will also speak about the numerous blogs and articles he has written about cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin with the aim of educating the Czech population about this particular topic. At the end of 2017, Jakub appeared on Česká televize, where he talked about cryptocurrencies. Through all the aforementioned successes and his most recent promotion, he is going to illustrate to you that enthusiasm and passion are essentially the formulae to success.

Kathleen Renehan

Teacher
Currently a Montessori teacher with a beautiful story to tell of her life tale and the importance of letting go of labels. Kathleen was born and raised in the United States and has been living in the Czech Republic for over 10 years. As anyone of us, she has faced a myriad of labels throughout her life and is here today to talk about how she managed to detach herself from those labels imposed on her by both her family, society and herself. She is a Montessori and Art teacher, whose passions fall into helping to empower the individual and ignite the creative spirit. Having moved to Prague chiefly for the sense of adventure, she now enjoys the inward journey of artistic expression, personal development and comfort zone expansion.

Marieta Kyselá

Student
Marieta is a 16-year-old ECP student who grew up in Morava and spent most of her early childhood in her grandmother’s company. When she was told her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, it broke her heart. Marieta's personal experience with Alzheimer has led her to research this degenerative illness in great depth. As a result, she has discovered little-known facts about the scale and distribution of this widespread illness from which 50 million people on the planet suffer. This talk is not only an opportunity for Marieta to raise awareness about Alzheimer but also a reminder of the fact that our dreams, just like her grandmother’s ones, can always be fulfilled.

Matyáš Pilin

A future polyglot
A student at the ECP who finds joy in language, travelling and meeting new people.

Tala Tafech

A citizen of the world
A alumni of the ECP shares her experience of what it was like growing up without a realistic citizenship. Tala was born stateless. As a daughter of a Syrian father and a Lebanese mother, she was born in Lebanon. She was granted neither Lebanese, nor Syrian citizenship and became a person without a nationality and without a place to call motherland. She is here today to talk about her journey and specifically how living in Europe has changed her perception of the meaning of nationality and citizenship. Now a self-proclaimed cosmopolitan, she wants to share with you some of her insights on what it truly is that makes a person who they are.
