In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Adamu Kofi Shauku

Adamu Kofi Shauku lives in Fairfield, AL and is a professor at UAB in Government. An interdisciplinary scholar, he holds degrees in Korean Studies, Philosophy, Economics, Political Science and Law. Adamu is also a PhD Candidate in Political Science (ABD), a U.S. Army Intelligence veteran, and former high school teacher.

Bill DeMarco

Serves in the United States Air Force and was born in California. He serves as the Vice Commandant at Air Command and Staff College at the Maxwell AFB in Alabama. His work there focuses on the development of leaders. He also is a professor at Auburn, holds 3 master’s degrees, and is a fellow at the Judge Business school at Cambridge in England. He’s been deployed in almost every conflict and humanitarian effort since the 1991 Gulf War and to top it all off, he also spent time working in the Pentagon with the US Department of State.

Emily Hynds

Dr. Emily Hynds is the chair of Mathematics at Samford University. She is also an avid fan of sports and is the Faculty Athletic Representative of Samford. She just recently accepted the position of Associate Dean at Samford and has a talent for bringing humor into the classroom.

Jeremy Carter

Jeremy Carter is a Samford University alum, who lives in Birmingham, AL. He started and operates the Breakout games in Birmingham and across Alabama. Recently he started another project called the Bold Future podcast which sprang from an idea to interview organization leaders that he admires to find their tips and advice for how to run a successful business or nonprofit.

Kimberly Carraway

Kimberly Carraway grew up in Birmingham and is now a cognitive learning specialist. She has degrees from Vanderbilt University and Harvard University and wrote the book "Transforming your Teaching: Practical Classroom Strategies Informed by Cognitive Neuroscience." She now owns and operates her own learning center in Nashville that helps tutor students and teach teachers how to teach effectively based on how our brains learn.
