In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ajantha Nadesalingam

Student, Student Council Environmental Head
A tree-hugger at heart, Ajantha Nadesalingam expresses her awe for nature’s beauty through environmentalism. She is the Environmental Minister at her school; the student council environmental representative and the head of her school’s environmental action team. She is also an executive member of a local not-for-profit, the Toronto Youth Environmental Council. She holds the belief that changes on a micro level, when undertaken by the masses, are the key to global change. Her further involvement in her community includes, but is not limited to, motivational speaking, creating films on social issues, and scientific research.

Anastasia Gaykalova

Student
Anastasia is a grade 11 student with Russian background. She Moved to Canada about 4 years ago. Anastasia has always questioned the elusive concept of "political correctness". She has a strong interest in humanities and psychology as well as philosophy and classical civilizations.

Minjae Kim

Actor
A senior student at North Toronto, Minjae Kim is an avid fan of the performing arts. Korean by nationality, he was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan and attended Taipei American School for the first 14 years of his life. He moved to New Brunswick, Rothesay Netherwood School, for grade 10, before settling in Toronto, North Toronto Collegiate Institute, for his 11th year. He continues to develop his passion for the arts, simultaneously performing in various musicals and plays while writing his own original scripts. His most recent production is Fiddler on the Roof and is currently working on writing an Elizabethan style play.

Thomas Bowen

Student
Thomas Bowen is a student currently attending North Toronto Collegiate Institute. In his free time he enjoys various activities including teaching and playing hockey, instructing and racing sailboats and writing for the school newspaper. Thomas has learned that through hard work in his passions and hobbies comes rewards. He’s won Sail Fest in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and most valuable defence men on his hockey team.
