On August 26, 2017- we will be hosting TEDxIslamabad 2017 in Islamabad with the aim to share stories and ideas of heroes who are building a new tomorrow.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

Amna Raheel

Motivational speaker
Amna is a supergirl who does not just fly without wings but also wants to show others how it’s done, she believes that disability is just a state of mind. Amna Raheel, 26 year old, who is currently doing her MBA in Media Management from the prestigious IOBM has the super power to make the battered realise with her communicating skills that they will always be their own saviour and their own knight shining armour.

Dr. Umar Saif

Prof. Umar Saif works as the Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab and the Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), heading all public-sector IT projects in Punjab. He is also the founding Vice Chancellor of ITU, a newly setup research university in Lahore. Prof. Saif received his PhD in 2001 at University of Cambridge and worked at MIT for several years before returning to Pakistan. He was named as one of the top 35 young innovators by the MIT Technology Review (TR35) in 2011 and a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2010. He received a Google Faculty Research award in 2011. In 2014, Prof. Saif was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz, one of the highest civil awards by government of Pakistan. He was named among the 500 most influential Muslims in the world in 2015 and 2016.

Hamza Ali Abbasi

Hamza Ali Abbasi is a renowned Pakistani actor, model, director, film-maker and now tv host. He is working in Pakistan entertainment industry for last around 9 years but the drama serial Pyaray Afzal, Movie Main Hoon Shahid Afridi and Waar gave HIM boost in Pakistan showbiz industry Hamza Ali Abbasi studied film making in the United States and then he came back to Pakistan to practice his theatrical career in Pakistan. Hamza started his theatrical career in 2006 as a Theatre actor and appeared in many small plays in start such as Bombay Dreams, Phantom of the Opera and Home is Where Your Clothes Are. Apart from his acting in theater play, he also appeared in many television commercials such as Jazz, Cadbury Dairy Milk and Candy Biscuits. Hamza Ali Abbasi loves concerning motorbikes. However, he sells of his award-winning personal bike in order to gather financial support for his debut movie venture “Mudhouse and the Golden Doll.” He is really very passionate to do something special for Pakistan entertainment industry. Hamza is mostly interested in Iranian movies and history and loves to watch the History Channel in his free time.

Haya Emaan Zahid

Haya left a promising career as a corporate lawyer to work at the Legal Aid Office (LAO), a quasi-governmental agency, which provides legal aid and representation to underprivileged pre-trial prisoners in Sindh. She is also the Program Director at the Legal Aid Society, an NGO that works to enhance legal empowerment of marginalized communities through raising awareness of legal rights and remedies and enhancing capacity of state actors to respond to these communities. Haya studied law at University College London (UCL) and completed her Bar Vocational Course from City Law School in London.

Rida Shah

Rida is a young concept based photo manipulation artist who likes to exhibit the darker truths of society through her work. Mostly recognized through her Levitation photography, she shows strong and bold messages in her work to break stereotypes and have a strong impact on the audience.

Shafaat Ali

Shafaat Ali is a Pakistani impressionist and comedian who is known for his impressions of Pakistani public figures.

Sidra Iqbal

Journalist
Sidra Iqbal is a celebrated television journalist and a passionate development activist from Pakistan. She presently hosts and produces ‘Insight with Sidra Iqbal’, teh flagship current affairs show on the state television, PTV News. She is the first Pakistani to be presented the GR8 Women Award for Journalism 2014 by the Government of UAE and the Indian Television Academy. Sidra is an accomplished media strategist. Sidra won the English Speaking Union’s International Public Speaking Champion 1999 in London and was invited to the Buckingham Palace to receive her Winner’s certificate from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip. This early achievement catapulted her as a powerful voice of development activism in the international arena. She successfully represented the youth of Pakistan at a number of power-packed forums in Australia, Cyprus, Japan, Turkey, UAE, US and many other countries throughout her college years. Yusuf Hussain

Yusuf Hussain is a technology enthusiast, entrepreneur and Angel investor, currently serving as CEO of Ignite, a VC Fund focused on 4th Industrial Wave tech, which also takes initiatives to plug gaps in the tech entrepreneurial ecosystem. Ignite was previously called the National ICT R&D Fund. He was co-founder and CEO of CresSoft, Inc., a leading US eCommerce tech company with FORTUNE 500 and GLOBAL 2000 clients. As MD PSEB, he launched strategic initiatives in country branding, IT Parks, and VC Funding. He has also served as MD of LMKR and as IT Advisor to the World Bank. He is a founding charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE) Islamabad.
