In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Arokia Nathan

Electrical engineer + author
He holds the Chair of Photonic Systems and Displays in the Department of Engineering, Cambridge University. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta. He has published 400+ papers in the field of sensor technology, computer-aided design, and thin film transistor electronics, and is a co-author of four books. He has 50+ patents filed/awarded and has founded/co-founded four spin-off companies. He serves on technical committees and editorial boards in various capacities. He is a Chartered Engineer (UK), Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (UK), Fellow of IEEE (USA), and an IEEE/EDS Distinguished Lecturer.

At WorldFish, Dr. Blake Ratner handles the leadership, operation, and management. This includes encouraging discussion with partners to find shared opportunities and promoting the use of fisheries & aquaculture as ways to contribute to development. He is also responsible for ensuring the vitality of WorldFish.

Cynthia McDougall

Gender research leader
Cynthia McDougall is the Gender Research Leader for WorldFish and the CGIAR Research Program on Fish (‘FISH’). She is an interdisciplinary social scientist with over 20 years of experience in food security, gender and social equity, and natural resource governance. In her current role, she leads the mainstreaming of gender in aquaculture, fisheries and nutrition research in Asia, Africa and the Pacific.
