On Second Thought is what we say when we consider things more than once. That's why at this TEDxYouth@SUISGubei event we have decided to revise many of the things that we see as normal in our society. From the choice of historical topics taught in the classroom, to reimagining higher education in the 21st century, to questioning our approach towards love and many other things, we have lined up 8 different talks from guests and members of the Shanghai United International School community. We hope to see you there on Monday, April 17th, from 17:00-20:00.

Richard Riches

History Teacher
My name is Richard Riches and I have been teacher of theHumanities subjects since starting my PGCE back in 1999. During that time, Ihave worked in numerous schools and countries around the world and have taughtHistory, Geography and Sociology to students at KS3, IGCSE (and GCSE) A Leveland most recently, for the IB. Whilst being a teacher on the international circuit has brought me into contact with peoples and cultures that are incredibly different to those that I experienced growing up in west London, one of the glorious aspects of being a secondary teacher abroad is how schools, students and even parents are the same as those back in the UK. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working in China and after nearly ten years of living in Shanghai, I feel very strongly that this gargantuan city of ours is very much my home.
