In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ayodeji Awosika

Ayodeji is an author, speaker, and creative consultant. He writes books about living life based solely on one's true definition of success. He speaks about overcoming resistance, fear, and doubt. He helps aspiring creative professionals remove the word aspiring from their vocabulary and start projects they love. With his passion for ideas and a bright outlook for the future, he hopes to usher as many people as possible into the new era of a more connected and creative world.

Becca Stiles-Nogosek

Becca Stiles-Nogosek is a lifelong resident of Rochester, MN. Becca is passionate about her community, building connections, sharing stories, and being inspired by brilliant ideas. Becca appreciates live performance, budget travel, taking many photos of her dogs doing absolutely nothing, and sharing brunch with those she cares about. Becca is fortunate to be a part of the incredible team of professionals who are inspiring curiosity at the Minnesota Children’s Museum Rochester where she is the Development Events and Volunteer Manager.

Doug Scholz-Carlson

Artistic Director, Great River Shakespeare Festival
Doug Scholz-Carlson is Artistic Director of the Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona, Minnesota where he will direct Richard III this summer. His work as a director, fight choreographer and actor has appeared in theaters across the country including The Guthrie Theater, Minnesota Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Minnesota Shakespeare Project, Repertory Theater of St. Louis, Children’s Theater Company, Park Square Theater, New York City Opera, Opera Montreal and the Seattle Police Department. Doug is a graduate of St. Olaf College and the University of Washington and lives with his wife and three daughters in Minneapolis.

Dr. Aaron Leppin

Medical Researcher
Aaron Leppin, MD is an implementation scientist in the Knowledge and Evaluation Research Unit at Mayo Clinic and an Assistant Professor in its Division of Health Care and Policy Research. His research focuses on the development of strategies that increase communities’ capacity to partner with healthcare and engage in self-directed and evidence-based health promotion. In collaboration with diverse stakeholders, he seeks to develop innovative and scalable models for improving population health and enabling a more socially connected and empathic society. He lives in Rochester with his wife, Beth, who is a teacher at Mayo High School.

Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa

Surgeon
Dr. Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa, commonly known as Dr. Q, is the William J. and Charles H. Mayo Professor and Chair of Neurologic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Quiñones is known internationally as a neurosurgeon and neuroscientist who leads NIH-funded research to cure brain cancer. He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters,edited neurosurgical texts and published his memoir, “Becoming Dr. Q. ”He has also been recognized with several prestigious awards, including being named as one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in 2008 and was also named by Forbes as one of the most creative Mexicans.

Jimmy Chen

Entrepreneur
Jimmy Chen is the founder and CEO of Propel. Previously, Jimmy was a Product Manager at Facebook, where he led the Facebook Groups team. He has also worked at LinkedIn and Yahoo. Through Propel, Jimmy aims to use Silicon Valley's technology playbook to fight poverty by building world class software for low-income Americans. Propel's product, Fresh EBT, is used by over 400,000 Americans every month to manage their food stamp benefits and improve their overall financial health. Through Propel, Jimmy has been featured in the New York Times, PBS, and Forbes, and has spoken at Money20/20, the Code for America Summit, Stanford Business School, and Columbia Business School. Jimmy holds a B.S. in Symbolic Systems/Human-Computer Interaction from Stanford University and lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Kim Van Brunt

Poet
Kim Van Brunt is a poet and nonfiction writer. Becoming a transracial adoptive parent opened her eyes in a much more personal way to the depth of her own white privilege. Now, she uses her story and her creative work to help others recognize systems of inequality and their power to affect change for the common good. Kim works as a communications strategist in Rochester, where she and her husband are raising four children — two homegrown and two adopted from Uganda in Eastern Africa.

Nick Dibble

Nicholas Dibble is a Principal Information Security Engineer at Mayo Clinic. He has been an engineer and held technology leadership positions for nearly 20 years in the Information Security & Technology fields. Nicholas holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Security and Assurance as well as numerous certifications and awards in the area of information security. Nicholas conducts independent research in his home lab in the areas of emerging technology, Internet of Things, cloud computing, and security. He is married to Brianna, a Public Health Nurse, and is the father to Adrian & Charlie, and a little girl due in June.

Scott Barry Kaufman

Scientific Director, Imagination Institute, University of Pennsylvania
Scott Barry Kaufman is deeply interested in using psychological science to help everyone– all kinds of minds— live a creative, fulfilling, and meaningful life. A main takeaway from his work is that everyone is capable of creativity, the key is finding the thing that will let them shine the most. Scott is the Scientific Director of the Imagination Institute and conducts research in the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania. His writing has appeared in The Atlantic, Scientific American, Psychology Today, and Harvard Business Review. His latest book is Wired to Create: Unraveling the Mysteries of the Creative Mind.

Vivian Barad

Senior Portfolio Director, IDEO
Vivian Barad is a Senior Portfolio Director at IDEO. Her work spans business strategy, consumer products, services and retail environments with a focus on food and beverage. She has a passion for designing a better food system and spends a lot of time thinking about the intersection of food and health - from personal health to the health of the planet. An industrial designer by training, Vivian has a keen eye for visual details and simple, intuitive solutions. Clients include the CDC, Campbell’s, St. Joseph’s Health System, Suntory, and WhiteWave Foods.
