Theme: Tipping Point

The theme of this year’s TEDxGeorgetown conference is The Tipping Point. This theme is inspired by Malcolm Gladwell’s book, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make A Big Difference, where he writes that a tipping point is "the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point.”
A tipping point can be a positive development or a detrimental setback, but it always forces us to evolve. Whether we recognize them as they occur or not, these times of clarity, confusion, or change redirect the course of our lives. On October 22nd, in historic Gaston Hall, a group of selected Georgetown students, faculty, and community members will present their TEDx Talks to a live audience about the tipping point in their lives that changed everything for them.
In the context of the upcoming presidential election, the political, social, and philosophical worlds around us are full of tipping points that are not only worth sharing, but that must be shared. These stories will serve to remind us of the vast potential for transformation, both in our own lives and in the world, and will remind us that nothing is as immovable or permanent as it may seem.

Agnes Lee

Agnes is a senior in the School of Foreign Service studying International Political Economy. She was born in Seoul, Korea and raised in Los Angeles, CA. At Georgetown, she's the Partnerships Chair on the Georgetown Scholarship Program's student board, the Service and Outreach Chair on the Corp's Board of Directors, and occasionally a DJ. Agnes is passionate about women's reproductive health and rights.

Amina Gerrbi

Amina Gerrbi is a senior in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University studying International Trade and Development.

Andrew Morse

Andrew Morse is the Executive Vice President of Editorial for CNN U.S. and is the General Manager of CNN Digital Worldwide. He oversees the TV network's domestic newsgathering operations as well as the Washington Bureau and DC-based programming. In addition, Morse is responsible for CNN's global digital business, including editorial, product, technology, emerging platforms, business development and partnerships. Morse is also the co-founder of Great Big Story.

Anthony Anderson

Anthony Anderson is a junior at Georgetown majoring in American Studies and minoring in African American Studies. He is originally from Gary, Indiana and is passionate about education equity and access in urban areas, sexual health in communities of color, and LGBTQ studies. In the past he has interned with Teach for America on campus as well as at their summer institute in Atlanta. Anthony is also a proud resident of the Black House for the 2016-2017 school year serving as the Student of Color Alliance liaison.

Elizabeth Ferris

Elizabeth Ferris is a Research Professor with the Institute for the Study of International Migration at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and also serves as a Non-resident Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution. From January-September 2016, she also served as Senior Advisor to the UN General Assembly’s Summit for Refugees and Migrants in New York.

Febin Bellamy

Febin Bellamy is a senior in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, majoring in Business Management. He has a strong passion for social entrepreneurship and aspires to leave a positive impact on the world through his viral initiative, Unsung Heroes. Febin's initiative focuses on promoting awareness and appreciation for the workers on college campuses who we often overlook and fail to recognize - such as cafeteria workers, sanitation workers, and janitors.

Jeong Whan Park

Park is a Senior in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He was born and raised in South Korea, and moved to New York and learned English at the age of 16. He is an ex-Marine, and an amateur boxer.

Jonah Reider

Jonah Reider is a 22 year old cook, event curator, and entrepreneur based in New York.

Mary Beth Bruggeman

Mary Beth Bruggeman is a Georgetown graduate and an Executive Director of the Southeast Region for The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit that engages military veterans in new missions of service nationwide.

Summer Durant

Summer Durant is a rising Junior in Georgetown’s College. She is pre-med, majoring in Psychology and minoring in French and Women's and Gender Studies. Summer grew up in the D.C. area and has struggled with her intersectional identity as a biracial woman throughout her entire life. She recently discovered slam poetry as a channel through which to turn her struggles with acceptance into something positive. She ultimately aspires to be a psychiatrist, so that she can foster these conversations about idiosyncratic identities and inspire change within the medical community.
