Theme: interconnected

This event occurred on
March 18, 2017
Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur

The purpose of TEDxUniversityofMalaya 2017 is to define, explain, and expose the interconnectedness of life through a series of short presentations by speakers from many different fields of study. The theme of “Interconnected” will be dissected, re-constructed, and examined in an effort to build a framework for looking at how we think and behave. Faulty mental models of the direct cause-and-effect paradigm inhibit creative problem solving and “bigger picture” thinking. We fall often under the commonly held assumption that being “interconnected” is just another way to talk about working together, failing to see the real essence of what it truly means to be interconnected. TEDxUniversityofMalaya 2017 will challenge the audience to reflect on their own behaviors and thought processes in order to integrate the presented ideas about interconnectedness into their daily lives.

The information presented by the speakers will take on three forms. First, a collection of real-life examples will show how people are acting and thinking in an interconnected way. Second, presentations on interconnected processes and systems thinking will expose the power of interconnectedness. Finally, proposals for future thinking and action to increase our interconnectedness will be explored. These presentations will be in the form of short “TED-style” talks, with the longest presentation lasting only 15 minutes. The curated line-up of speakers will provide a focused look at evidence of how understanding and applying an interconnected approach to how we address issues can compound positive results.
