TEDxAkam was an inspirational on the spur of the moment TEDx event held at Aga Khan Academy Mombasa. The event was put together on short notice supported by representatives of the school who use the TED talks in the school IB program. Working with Nick Alchin, the Dean of Studies, a passionate Tedster himself, we managed to organise the event over email in only a couple of days.
The event was held in the school auditorium on a Friday late afternoon, where the audience comprised of both teachers, student borders and Lisa, an ex Akam parent. :)
Two TED talks were shown, the first being the Arctic swim by Lewis Pugh and the second was Benjamin Zander and his attempt to create a passion for classical music in his audience. There were no live speakers although the students asked me to tell them about my work and experience of being a TED Fellow too.
It was a fun event and ended on a high note where possibilities of future events managed by the students themselves for the greater community were discussed.
