Theme: What's Next?

For the last five years TEDxAmanaAcademy students have been inspired by TED.com to share their "Ideas Worth Spreading." This year 1st-8th grade students were encouraged to think about the guiding question- What's Next? What's next for themselves, the country, education etc... TEDxAmanaAcademy is an independently organized TEDxYouth event.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Henry Lennon

Student

Henry Lennon is a third grader at Amana Academy. He has been at Amana Academy for four years and this is his third year in TEDxAmanaAcademy. Henry loves to play sports and with legos. He wants a world where kids make time to use their imagination without “instructions.”

Jimmy Leddy

Jimmy Leddy is a third grade student at Amana Academy. He loves to read, eat, and watch tornadoes.  Jimmy hopes that everyone will leave his talk with a heart full of empathy and caring for people with disabilities. His talk will connect with the EL Design Principle of Empathy and Caring.

Judah Garrett

Judah Garrett is a third grade student at Amana Academy. He loves to give speeches, watch tv, and play video games. Judah hopes that people will discover that their talent is not just something that they should do, but something that they are supposed to enjoy. His talk will connect with the EL Design Principle of Success and Failure as well as the Primacy of Self Discovery.

Maryam Elassar

Maryam Elassar  is a fourth grade student at Amana Academy.  She likes to play outside, make crafts, and would love to see a world where kids can overcome their differences. Maryam hopes that her talk will inspire all of us to think about racism differently. Her talk will connect with the EL Design Principle Diversity and Inclusion.

Masuma Taqvi

Masuma Taqvi  is an 8th grade student at Amana Academy. She loves photography, her cat “Bolly,” and helping others.  Masuma hopes that people will limit the amount of technology they use and care for the people around them more. Her talk will connect with the EL Design Principle of Primacy of Self Discovery.

Mereym Abdulahi

Mereyem Abdulahi is a 1st grader at Amana Academy. She loves to read, exercise, and play on the computer. Meryem envisions a world where people do not judge books by their covers.  Her talk will connect with the EL Design Principle of Primacy of Self Discovery.

Paola Penalver

Paola Penalver is an eighth grade student at Amana Academy. She loves to learn new languages, create artwork, and being with my family. Paola hopes that people will respect different cultures and think about how the words we say have impact. Her talk will connect with the EL Design Principle of Empathy and Caring as well as Diversity and Inclusion.

Simon Link

Simon Link is a fifth grade student at Amana Academy He likes chocolate, candy, and learning about the history of other cultures. Simon hopes that one day there will be a female president in the white house and he wonders what the job of the first man will be like. His talk will connect with the EL Design Principle of Having Wonderful Ideas.

Yusuf Abdulahi

Yusuf Abdulahi is a third grader at Amana Academy. He loves to use his tablet, eat candy or pizza, and play soccer.  Yusuf loved watching the Olympics and found inspiration for his TEDxAmanaAcademy talk about the fastest man in the world.  His talk will connect with the EL Design Principle of Success and Failure.

Zaydah Lotallah

Zaydah Lotallah is a second grade student at Amana Academy. She loves to do math, listen to music, and dress up. Zaydah hopes people will learn to take their education seriously and invest in their local schools. Her talk will connect with the EL Design Principle of Responsibility for Learning.
