In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ali Sedaghaty Khayat

Children's Rights Activist
Ali Sedaghati Khayat,also known as “Uncle Tailor” (the meaning of his family name is tailor), was born in 1946. He is an author, an Iranian sociologist and activist for children’s rights. He received his early education in Mashhad and went on to pursue studies in Sociology and Political Economy in Paris and in 1977 he returned to Iran and spent many years to teach literacy to children who were deprived of education and invented a new method named “The Art of Reading and Writing Within 15 Days”. After studying living conditions and behaviour of work children Uncle Tailor introduced the concept of “Mind’s Safe Room” and he decided to help these children achieve a “Mind’s Safe Room”. He succeeded in his program so that with the help of volunteers lots of street children and illiterate workers were educated.

Bahareh Amidi

Poetry Therapist
Dr. Bahareh Amidi is a poetry therapist who believes words and voice can be instrumental in the healing process. She holds a Master’s Degree in Family, Marriage and Child Counseling Psychology from College of Notre Dame and a Ph.D. from Catholic University in Educational Psychology. She completed her Certification in Poetry Therapy at the California-based Institute for Poetic Medicine. She grew up in the USA and is currently based in Iran. Dr. Amidi has spent many years in the USA and the Middle East working with youth, ladies in safe houses, victims of human trafficking and men in labor camps. She regularly holds poetry sessions, workshops, and seminars for poetic expression and healing in the community and at universities and schools.

Hamid Djodeiri Khodashenas

Lawyer/ Eclipse man of Iran
Hamid Djodeiri Khodashenas, born on September 21st, 1963, is an Iranian lawyer who has been traveling and observing the total solar eclipse since 1999.DJodeiri, “The Man of Eclipses in Iran”, has put all of his resources and effort in this pathway and observed his first total solar eclipse in Gahar, Lorestan, Iran and since then has traveled all the continents and oceans in the path of the Moon’s shadow. To further accomplish his goals and dreams, he established Sayeh Research Institute and after years of perseverance, he is now attempting to make “Observing the Solar Eclipse in Space” a reality, an idea which he first presented at the International Solar Eclipse Conference in New Mexico, the US in 2014 and was supported by renowned scientists from all over the world.

Hamidreza Sadr

Economist,Urban Planner
Hamidreza Sadr is a writer, economist, urban planner & sociologist born in 1956, Iran. He obtained his BA in Economy & MA in Urban Planning from the University of Tehran. Sadr is mostly known for his numerous published articles and books about football and cinema. He started his writing from the early 1980s, and his approach emphasized on the cultural, historical and political context. Most of his published books such as Football & Sociology (2000) have been highly successful and amongst bestsellers. Iranian Cinema: A Political History (2006) which is translated to English is the history of Iran through its cinema and Sadr uses the Iranian films to depict the shifting political, economic and social situations. A Boy on the Terraces (2011) is an autobiographical essay based on football and political events observes with some questions of humanity and the structure of Iran society.

Shadi Manavi

Educator and Illustrator
Shadi Manavi, born on July 22nd, 1981. She is an educator, adventurer and illustrator. After she got her IB in Education and her Bachelor in Illustration from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver) and also her Master’s in Education (teaching through the heart) from University of British Columbia (UBC), she started her thesis about teaching autistic kids. She wrote and illustrated the book "A Day in Looliland" and after all these, she traveled to Toronto, Vancouver, Madrid, and Mexico to do some educational activities based on art to improve children's creativity, self-confidence, cultural exchange experiences, and spirituality. All these experiences came with her to Tehran and she is the founder of 3SQUARES Art Studio where children can freely express their ideas and have new, wonderful experiences.

Shahrzad Esfarjani

Iranian Brand Story Teller
Shahrzad Esfarjani (Born on March 24th, 1961, Shemiran, Iran) is an administration coach, writer, speaker, and tutor on branding, marketing strategy, and creative communication. Clients have titled her a “brand storyteller” for several reasons she represents: content, design, strategy, and innovation. Further attributes of her strategy: perceptive, creative, visionary, confident, enthusiastic, ethical, future-oriented, and communicative. Shahrzad Esfarjani is a storyteller for many Iranian brands. She is a career and business thinker as she develops some of the most innovative business solutions as well as educational materials, and pioneers in executive and personal brands in order to reinvent a new corporate attitude, from the bottom layer all the way to the top position of the director of the brand.

Sohrab Mahdavi

Writer,Painter,Translator
Sohrab Mahdavi, born is 1964, is a writer and a translator. He has translated many publications among which are “Lessons with Kiarostami”, “100”, “ A Window into Life”, “Twenty Past Eleven o’clock”, “Revolution of 1979”. Sohrab is also one of the founders of the bilingual publication named “Tehran Onio” in 2001. He is a member of the “Breath” society that strives to better the air-quality in Tehran. He graduated from University of Colorado in Boulder, US with a degree in Mathematics and Physics.
