At TEDxCamarillo, we seek to serve community leaders, life-long learners, entrepreneurs, college students, thinkers, doers and creatives.

The theme for TEDxCamarillo is Unabridged. This theme alludes to telling the whole story, uncut, and uncensored. Our venue is the Camarillo Public Library, where unabridged collections are a common offering.

Andros Sturgeon

Founder Starchild Interactive
Since as early as childhood, Andros has been interested in the entertainment industry as his parents wrote for such shows as “Star Trek” and “Land of the Lost.” He held many jobs in the industry until 2012, when he made the decision to forge his own path by creating his own company. Andros founded Starchild Interactive: a community based internet development company designed to create interactive entertainment experiences, video marketing, advertising and websites for businesses and service providers. He currently lives in Ojai, California with his wife photographer / business partner Nathalie. They have a son together named Khalil. He is currently writing his first novel.

Cindy Liu

Founder Black Sheep Food Co. + Advocate
Cindy is a marketing professional and founder of Black Sheep Food Co. The mission of the social enterprise is to end unemployment for individuals with disabilities. In 2012, she and her husband celebrated the birth of their first child, who was born with Trisomy 21. The experience of parenting a child with Down Syndrome has given Cindy's Life new passion and her career new direction. Her company is anticipated to launch late 2017. She is an active advocate for disability rights and serves as an Ambassador for The National Down Syndrome Society and on the board of The Tarjan Center at UCLA. She is an active Community Partner at Cal State Channel Islands and the California Institute for Social Business. She has been featured on KCRW’s Good Food, the Ventura County Star, Vantana Magazine, Edible Ojai, and is a frequent contributor on LIVE 805.

Elizabeth Chapin

Park Ranger
After graduating from Claremont McKenna College in 2015 with a Literature degree, Elizabeth has returned to her hometown of Ventura, California to pursue a career with the National Park Service. She currently works as an interpretive park guide at Channel Islands National Park. Her degree reflects her deep love of books and reading. Her senior thesis, which was awarded the Best Thesis in Literature for that year, explored the subject of women and the feminine in subgenres of fantasy literature. When she’s not teaching local students about the islands and their surrounding marine environment, she can be found devouring the latest fantasy novel or rereading Harry Potter.

Julie Merrick

Educator + Handwritten Letter Fan
Julie teaches mindfulness at a public school and is a mental game coach for athletes. Although her jobs have varied throughout her life, one thing has remained constant: writing handwritten letters. Julie is an advocate for all things that lead others to write more. She has launched a new meetup group called Ladies, Letters and Lunch and is currently working on a book about letter writing. Linnaea Mallette

Speaker, Author + Hearing Loss Advocate
Linnaea Mallette, hearing impaired since birth, speaks and writes about the effects of hearing loss on both those with the disability and those connected to them. She has been recognized and honored by UCLA and Toastmasters International for her leadership example as well as her successes. She is one of twelve individuals nationwide to receive the “Oticon Focus on People” award which is given to those who defy the stereotypes of being hard-of-hearing. She is the author of three books and is currently working on an expanded version of her hearing loss book to include cochlear implant technology and challenges.

Mike Williams

Mike is the founding partner and Purpose Agent at enPractice®. An organization that works with highly talented individuals, teams and organizations to create products and services that increase mindfulness, presence, situational readiness, and responsiveness. From 2011 to 2016, Mike served as President and CEO of the David Allen Company. His appreciation of Getting Things Done® (GTD®) methodology as a means for sustainable change for individuals and organizations drew him from General Electric to his role as President and CEO of the David Allen Company. He is also a board member of the Association of Talent Development (td.org). Mike enjoys engaging directly with clients in his role as advisor, practice designer, speaker and executive coach. He is a productivity industry expert that has been cited in magazines such as Fast Company and Inc.

Robert Duff

Psychologist, Host + Author
Dr. Duff is a psychologist from Southern California that focuses on translating complex mental health issues into accessible formats for "real people.” He is the author of the Hardcore Self Help book series and the host of a podcast by the same name. In his day job, Dr. Duff practices psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessment out of a private practice in Camarillo, CA. Outside of work, he spends most of his time being silly with his family or playing video games.

Sarah Khan

Speaker + Trainer
Sarah Khan is a professional speaker and trainer. She facilitates dialogues and workshops on the following platforms: The Science of Communication through Connection, The Art of Mindful Living, and From Diversity to Pluralism. Sarah has been featured in Forbes Magazine in which she shares her journey from an agoraphobic to a public speaker and advocate. Her ongoing work in engaging local communities in confronting Islamophobia has brought her to elementary, middle and high schools across Southern California as well as guest spots on local television. She has been a guest speaker for various Interfaith Service Events at synagogues and churches promoting unity and coexistence. She has presented keynotes for various organizations like Kiwanis, Imamia Medics, Toastmasters, Muslim American Professionals, and Muslim Women Speakers. Sarah has also been featured in ‘Muslims of America’ sharing her message of intercommunal harmony.

Stephen Trudeau

Psychologist + Author
Dr. Stephen Trudeau is a clinical psychologist practicing in Malibu, CA. As a highly sought after motivational speaker, he has had numerous media appearances on radio and television. He is the author of the book, Courage to Thrive: Triumph in the Face of Adversity. The book seeks to explain how anyone can live a thriving life despite the difficulties they may have faced. He encourages his audience to get out of their victim mentality, to go beyond mere survival, and to truly thrive in life! He is an avid motorcycle enthusiast known as “The Psych on the Bike,” rides every day through the mountains and down by the Pacific Ocean.
