Theme: The Changemakers

This event occurred on

Come together and take a break from the ordinary with hundreds of smart and curious friends September 17 and join us as we shine a light on those in our city who have the ideas, the passion, and the will to affect change in their own way. This event is dedicated to “The Changemakers” among us, those who reject the status quo and work to build a better now and a better future, those among us who not only ask what can be, but what should be.

We are thrilled to hold our first outdoor event ever at “The BARN,” the spectacular new indoor/outdoor riverfront venue designed in such a way that we will not be able to help ourselves from “thinking different,” while under the beautiful, modern, structure.

This is our last Salon event of the season. Our Salons are more intimate, shorter format events designed to bring people together between main events during which live speakers and performers will combine to spark deeper conversations and connection. Our last Salon completely sold out and we expect the same here, so do not procrastinate.

note: event prices will increase as the event gets closer.

100% of ticket sales go toward the cost of the event.

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize local, independent TED-like events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is call TEDxSacramento, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxSacramento event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

Jerry van Eyck

Jerry van Eyck possesses an unusual breadth of skills that he applies to every project under his purview. Originally trained as an industrial designer, he approaches each commission balancing macro — how public space fits into the larger context of a city’s fabric and the urban experience, with the micro — materiality, ornamentation, and pattern that provides each project its own singular identity. As !melk’s founding principle, he has garnered a reputation as a specialist in the design of complex urban interventions with innovative solutions for urban revitalization in complex settings. Jerry is also an adjunct professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania and a globally respected lecturer.

Lisa Wrightsman

Lisa, a former Division I and semi-pro soccer player, is the founder and current Director and Coach of Street Soccer USA’s Sacramento Lady Salamanders. Her work to serve as a catalyst for change has been locally and nationally recognized, and under her leadership, the program has proven to successfully reverse the effects of addiction and domestic violence in 92% of team participants. Street Soccer USA is a nationwide nonprofit that uses soccer to break the cycle of homelessness and domestic abuse by creating a training curriculum of job preparation, life skills, and other specialized services, ultimately connecting participants directly to jobs, education, and housing.

Tiffani Sharp

Tiffani Sharp is the Founder and Executive Director of Willow Tree Roots, an international nonprofit for women. Her law practice specializes in international law and for over 15 years she’s been advocating for the legal rights of the underrepresented, such as survivors of domestic violence and trafficking, through volunteer and legal work. Tiffani knows that communities as a whole benefit when women actively participate in their own social and economic empowerment, and her next project — The power of SHE — is in the Sacramento area and will help young women between the ages of 16-22 become entrepreneurs.
