We are very excited to host our 3rd TEDxCarrollwoodDaySchool Event! The event will include student and community member speakers who will spark new ideas and ways of thought. Middle School students and parents will take part in engaging activities based on speaker talks throughout the day.

Aksheta Kanuganti

Student
Currently, Aksheta Kanuganti is a freshman who attends Carrollwood Day School. Aksheta loves to dance, sing, play the piano, and tennis. She takes part in Speech and Debate, History Fair and Science Fair. She tries to grab any opportunity around her and is never discouraged by loss. Her motto is, “Just keep trying. You can’t miss every time.”

Arielle Solomon

CDS Student
Arielle is currently in 8th grade at Carrollwood Day School. She is an accomplished musician who focuses on drums, piano, singing, and guitar. Arielle is also academically accomplished as she is a member of both the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Program and the Duke Tip Program. This summer, Arielle is going to attend an intensive study course at Johns Hopkins focusing on International Politics. She is also currently the president of the middle school's 20/20 Club. Arielle describes herself as a hard worker, ambitious, compassionate, strong, and a leader.

Carrie Wildes

Founder, Promise of Love
Ms. Wildes is the co-founder of Promise Love Foundation partnering with foster parents to raise funds for adoption. As an industrial engineer, she began her career at Abbott Laboratories and worked there for five years in numerous positions in manufacturing, logistics, and internal consulting and process improvement. With that position she did a significant amount of international travel and worked in Germany, Italy, Argentina, South Africa, and Brazil. Photography became an interest through her travels. When Ms. Wildes relocated to Florida, she worked for Tech Data and then started her own photography company full time.

Dr. Thomas Taylor-Clark

Associate Professor at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine
Dr. Thomas Taylor- Clark is an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa, College of Medicine, Molecular Pharmacology & Physiology, Associate Chair for Research. Dr. Taylor-Clark is a research scientist who studies how nerves in lungs control breathing and coughing. His talk is a story about how specific extreme tastes, like chili, wasabi and menthol are central to our understanding of how the nerves in our skin sense damaging signals and evoke pain.

Evan Nierman

Founder, Red Banyan Group
Evan Nierman brings deep experience in crisis management and public relations to Red Banyan Group, which provides strategic communications counsel to senior business leaders, government officials, and private individuals. Nierman has advised and represented non-profits and companies across a wide range of industries, guiding clients through high-stakes, complex situations. He has also executed effective PR and public affairs campaigns, steering CEOs and senior executives through interactions with top-tier global, national and local media outlets.

Gagan Midathala

CDS Student
Gagan, CDS class of 2017, is a senior at Carrollwood Day School. From an early age, he has been involved in music playing the guitar, piano and drums. He is also the president of the CDS AV League and Treasurer of the Thespian Group. He is involved in the CDS musical productions such as Little Mermaid (Sebastian), Wizard of Oz (Tinman), Once Upon a Mattress, and more recently Beauty and the Beast (Lumiere). He is also a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Spanish Honor Society. Gagan is still on a journey of exploring his creativity.

Jeff Hornick

Sr. Director of Theme Park Development SeaWorld Parks and Enetrtainment
Jeff Hornick is the Sr. Director of Theme Park Development at SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment. He is in charge of planning, designing and implementing capital projects and new attractions across the company’s 12 domestic parks. His project resume includes Cheetah Hunt, Falcon’s Fury, Cobra’s Curse, Animal Care Center, and Pantopia and has over 13 years of experience in the theme park industry. Jeff is a graduate of the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Masters of Business Administration. He also holds a Professional Engineering License. He is a member of the Leadership Tampa Bay. In 2015 he was awarded the Outstanding Young Alumnus award for the USF College of Engineering. Jeff also holds two US Patents for new product developments.

Kim Anstett

CIO The Nielsen Company
Kim Anstett is the CIO at The Nielsen Company, a leader in independent measurement with over 50,000 associates in more than 100 countries. During her 16 years with Nielsen and throughout her 23 year career, Kim has been a leader of change, focused on aligning IT strategies with corporate business plans. She’s led dozens of transformation initiatives from global technology platform deployments to company acquisitions and large scale IT integrations. Her experience includes software development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, vendor management and corporate ERP systems. Kim is passionate about diversity and leadership development. She is an executive sponsor, frequent speaker, and contributor to the Emerging Leaders Program and Diversity & Inclusion groups at Nielsen. She is also a mentor to numerous individuals, furthering Nielsen’s goal of growing talent and developing a strong leadership pipeline. Ria Patel

CDS Student
Ria, class of 2019, is a sophomore at Carrollwood Day School. She is a singer who has been training in Classical Hindustani music for over eight years and is currently learning to play the harmonium. In her free time, she often volunteers and sings for the senior citizens at the Indian Cultural Center in Tampa. Ria also enjoys acting and performing arts. She is also part of the Thespian Troupe and competed in Individual Events in both ninth and tenth grade. In addition, Ria enjoys traveling and exploring and learning various cultures throughout the world.

Suhaib Dahla

CDS Student
Suhaib Dahla, class of 2019, is a sophomore at Carrollwood day school. He participates in activities such as football and tennis. He is also part of grill club, a club where students interact and learn how to grill. Suhaib is an outgoing, ambitious and engaging student.

Vibha Singh

Teacher
Vibha Singh is head of the department of mathematics at Carrollwood Day School since 2008 and currently teaches Mathematics SL/HL courses in the IB Diploma Programme. Her classroom teaching experience of 25 years has inspired her to explore more ideas in numbers interaction directions. Sometimes, even with the best lesson designed to benefit all students, the gap between the art of teaching and science of learning can become painfully apparent.
