In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Arthur Brodsky

Science Writer
Arthur Brodsky, Ph.D. is the principal science writer at the Cancer Research Institute (CRI), where he specializes in cancer immunotherapy. His work involves translating the science behind this exciting revolution in cancer treatment into clear and concise content that all can appreciate. Through his work at CRI he also collaborates with the leading cancer doctors, researchers, and nonprofit organizations, to develop blueprints for moving the field of cancer immunotherapy forward. Before turning to science communication full-time, Arthur completed his doctorate in Bioengineering at Clemson University, where researched diverse topics including biopharmaceuticals, stem cells, and breast cancer.

Bon Ku

Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Design in Medicine
Bon Ku, MD, MPP is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Bon founded and directs JeffDESIGN, a program that teaches medical students to solve healthcare challenges using design thinking. The first ever design program in a medical school empowers future doctors to redesign healthcare services, physical spaces and medical devices. Bon received his B.A. in Classical Studies from Penn, M.D. from Penn State College of Medicine, and M.P.P. from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. He completed an emergency medicine residency at Long Island Jewish Hospital where he was a chief resident and a fellowship in point-of-care ultrasound at Penn.

Brendan Cooke

General Director, Opera Delaware
Brendan Cooke was appointed General Director of OperaDelaware in June 2012. Cooke joined OD from the Baltimore Concert Opera, a company he founded in 2008 in response to the collapse of the Baltimore Opera Company. Cooke and his board of directors launched this start-up opera company with $700 in personal funds. Under his leadership BCO experienced exponential growth, and is currently entering its ninth season. After founding BCO, Cooke continued his career in Arts Administration as a member of the marketing team for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, where he was Group Sales Manager for the organization. He holds a Master’s degree in Music from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, (where he was a student of renowned bass-baritone John Shirley-Quirk) and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Loyola University in New Orleans.

David Hindin

Surgical Resident and Writer
David Hindin, MD, is a writer and surgery resident, currently completing his residency at Temple University Hospital. He has a lifelong passion for creative pursuits – and is particularly interested in innovations within the medical world. David is Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Invented Magazine, a digital magazine that highlights the stories behind innovative medical and tech startups making an impact in the world. Previously, he was involved with the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Technology Transfer, where he helped to assess new intellectual property developed within the university. In addition to his M.D., David holds a Master’s in Innovation Management & Entrepreneurship. His research experience has involved work on both tissue engineering and bioengineering endeavors.

Deirdre Mylod

Expert in Patient Experience
As a prominent thought leader within Press Ganey and the industry, Dr. Deirdre Mylod regularly lectures on such topics as public policy, legislation and the future of the patient experience. She is the architect of Press Ganey’s Suffering Framework, which reframes the view of the patient experience as a means to understand unmet patient needs and reduce patient suffering. Dr. Mylod joined Press Ganey in 1997 and currently serves as the executive director of the organization’s Institute for Innovation and senior vice president of Research & Analytics. In this joint role, she is responsible for advancing the understanding of the entire patient experience, including patient satisfaction, clinical process and outcomes. Through the Institute, Mylod partners with leading health care providers to study and implement transformative concepts for improving the patient experience.

Paul Rosen

Innovator in Patient-Physician Communication
Paul Rosen, MD, MPH, MMM was named ‘One of the First 100 Innovators’ by the U.S Federal Government Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for his work on patient-physician communication. He co-hosts Pediatric Chat, a podcast that offers pediatric information to families across the globe. He is a TEDx speaker and has appeared on Sirius XM on the Business of Healthcare show to discuss the patient experience movement. Dr. Rosen is a pediatric rheumatologist and serves as the Clinical Director of Service and Operational Excellence for Nemours Children’s Health System.

Shahid Shah

Shahid N. Shah is an internationally recognized and influential digital healthcare thought leader who is known as “The Healthcare IT Guy” across the Internet. Steven Lawless

Professor of Pediatrics, International Leader in Quality and Safety of Hospital Care
Stephen Lawless MD, MBA, is a Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at Nemours Children’s Health System, and is known as an international expert in the field of quality and safety. He is a Board-Certified Pediatric Physician and a professor of Pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University. His scope of responsibility includes patient, environmental and associate infection control, clinical outcomes, risk management, Accreditation, research, academic affairs and the office of human subjects’ protection. Nemours operates two free-standing children’s hospitals in Orlando and Wilmington, Del., specializing in providing care for children with complex medical conditions and more than 50 specialty, primary and urgent care practice locations across six states. He is a corporate officer of Nemours with quality and safety responsibilities for more than 6,000 employees, including 600 physicians with more than 1.5 million patient encounters annually.

He is the Managing Partner of SeventySix Capital, the venture capital firm he founded in 1999, and has invested in over 40 startup technology and healthcare companies. Among the Fortune 500 companies that have acquired his portfolio companies are Aramark, Intel, IBM, Walgreens and Yahoo! Wayne is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park and the Delaware Law School.
