Papillon Blue

Hong Kong University-wise Acapella group

Established in February 2014, Papillon Blue is an A Cappella group formed by students of CUHK. They perform songs from a variety of genres, ranging from classical pieces to pop songs. Since its establishment, they have been invited to perform at occasions both within and outside CUHK, achieving the champion, second runner-up titles, and The Most Popular Pre-competition Video Prize in the Hong Kong and Macau College A Cappella Competition 2014 and 2015.

Adrian Ho

Student; Life fighter; Writer

Adrian Ho was born on 16th November 1992. He received his education in Pun U Association Wah Yan Primary School and Wah Yan College, Hong Kong. During his 1st Form, Adrian fell into a coma, thus causing his absence from school for two months. He then went to Shrewsbury School, UK at the age of 16. During his 5th Form, a relapse of his ITP condition caused his absence from school for four months, but saw also the release of his first book. Adrian was awarded “High Distinction in English Writing” in the Stanford University Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) 2005, after which he continues to pursue his interest in English creative detective novel writing. He was the first ever Hong Kong pre-adult to publicly publish in excess of two English novels. The books have been commented by Dr. Margaret Ng (Barrister, former Legislative Councillor) as “show[ing] a delightful mastery of the English language”. Currently, he studies law at CUHK in the final year.

Alex Chew

CUHK exchange student; Singer-songwriter

Alex Chew is a singer-songwriter from Maryland, USA. Having played for the United College Band recently, his music is heavily influenced by the people and events of his exchange year in Hong Kong

Christopher See

Medical Educator; Science communicator; Research Student

Dr. Christopher See took his medical degree at Trinity College, Cambridge University, and worked as a junior doctor in several UK hospitals. He completed a PGCE in clinical education with the University of Edinburgh and went on to take a teaching post at Manchester University Medical School, where he received the Excellent Teacher Award for the Faculty in 2012. He is currently completing his PhD research in the application of e-learning and game-based learning in medical training at the University of Hong Kong. He has published in peer-reviewed publications include the journal Rheumatology and the Imperial College Press, as well as 7 book titles with publisher Kogan Page. He is a keen science communicator, winning the science presenting competition Famelab in 2013 and hosting public lectures at the HK Science Museum and Café Scientifique. Oh, and he really loves games. You’ll see.

Data Ng

CEO; Electronic hacker; Changemaker

Data is an Experimental Physics Ph.D at the University of Hong Kong. He is a changemaker, maker and electronic hacker. Since Data acquired his first DIY reprap 3D printer in 2010, he has been practicing 3D printing. As an advocate for digital making, Data founded Printact to promote 3D Printing to the public. Data is also active in the entrepreneurship community and hosted several entrepreneurship events, including Startup Weekends HKU and Hackathons - AngelHack@HKU. He was invited to share his start-up experience at the University of Hong Kong, Fudan University, Qianhai Houde Incubator and HKFYG. Data also holds a Bachelor of Science with majors in Physics and Finance, and a minor in Astronomy from the University of Hong Kong.

Henrik Hoeg

Educator; Poet; Public Speaker

When not working his day job as literacy specialist teaching dyslexic children, Henrik runs Peel Street Poetry, a weekly poetry open mic night. His poetry has appeared in a number of places including Time Out Magazine, East Lit and Sound & Rhyme. He performed at ‘TEDxWanChai Women’ alongside names like Anson Chan and Angie Lau. For his contribution the local poetry scene he won the 2015 HKELD Heart Award and was named their Artist of the Month for September. This year he will be publishing his first collection of poetry entitled ‘Irreverent Poetry for Pretentious People' which won a supplementary award in the 2015 Proverse Prize.

Kari Chang

Long-term volunteer; Photographer; Traveler

Kari was an ordinary Taiwanese undergraduate until she had her first photography trip in 2011, after a heart-breaking relationship. Since then she started three things at the same time: 1) Took more pictures, 2) Started traveling, and 3) organize volunteer projects in the rural Cambodia. It was not for long she found passion in all of the activities and a way to keep the cycle running: Promotion, exhibition, and crowdfunding.

Lolitta Ho

CUHK student; life fighter

Lolitta Ho had a serious illness some time ago and nearly died. With the help of many people around her, she survived but still spends a lot of time doing therapy. She learnt a lot of lessons from that experience and would like to share her views on the value of life with others.

Mr. Nelson Yip, MH

Founding CEO and Director of EP Venture Co. Limited

Having contracted cerebral palsy in his infancy, Mr. Yip spent his childhood going back and forth to hospitals. Despite a challenging youth, he persevered and was conferred a BSc in Statistics and Computer Science, an MA in Quantitative Analysis in Business and an MBA Degree. Disability and rehabilitation are issues that Mr. Yip is interested in. He is the founder of “Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power” and “Unleash Foundation”. He was the first qualified representative of Hong Kong in the Equestrian Competition of Beijing 2008 Paralympics. He was also an Olympic Torch Bearer of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Nick Chan

Lawyer

Nick Chan, a multi-award winning technology lawyer with computer science background and passion for helping the next generation, was one of the youngest lawyers to become an equity partner at one of the top ten most global law firms, and he was one of the youngest solicitor to serve as Council Member of the Law Society of Hong Kong. He serves in various pro bono and community/public service roles as chairman, member and as honorary advisor for various boards, panels, NGOs, industry associations, charities, universities, incubation centres and think tanks.

Peggy Tse

Social entrepreneur

Peggy Tse is a two-time social entrepreneur, and an advocate for global justice and sustainable development. She serves as the Vice President (Asia) at the Health Impact Fund, providing systemic solutions to attain global health equity for all. Prior to that, Peggy co-founded Lensational in 2013, where she introduced artistic education as a women empowerment tool to over 200 underprivileged women in Southeast Asia. Peggy is a Founder Institute fellow and an alumni of the AIA Health Tech Accelerator.

Peter A. Mahon

Travel 'V'logger; Exchange Student

I see travel as a creative outlet. After finishing high school in Australia, I packed a bag, and caught the cheapest flight I could to Europe. The months that followed were liberating. My emotions became amplified. The saddest moments were excruciating, and the happiest moments were pure ecstasy. My life has never really calmed down, and even when visas, cashflow, or time restrictions, have forced me to go back home, I’m always on a plane flying elsewhere soon enough. I do love Australia. It was an amazing place to grow up, but it has always felt too safe. I like learning, both about myself and the world around me. Travel provides me with the perfect platform to educate myself on both topics. I like to keep track of my travels on paper, or with my camera. For me, it’s all about the story.

Peter Gregoire

Lawyer; Novel writer; Athelete

Peter Gregoire has been an insurance lawyer for almost twenty years, but please do not hold that against him! After all, he is constantly trying to find ways to take his mind off his day job. That’s how he came to write two novels (Article 109 and The Devil You Know). That’s why he tried his hand at tutoring on the law course at Hong Kong University in the evenings and became an Honorary Lecturer. That’s why he has run or race-walked his way through 10 marathons. His wife and his son both think he’s crazy, but he’s used to that (he has, after all, been an insurance lawyer for almost twenty years).
