We have an incredible line up of high school speakers and performers- topics will range from net neutrality, educating teens on what they really need to know about sex, and overcoming adversity through fashion to myths about gamers, shyness to singing, mass incarceration, conquering anorexia through service and more. You will be dazzled by slam poetry, serenaded by a vocalist and so much more!

Garden Patch Girls

Jenia Brewington, Sophia Calder, Naiya Davis, Clara Lagor, Andrea Ponce, Mckenzi Thompson

Jazz Trio

Sophia Calder (piano and vocals), Christopher Laven (bass), and Gabi Ragazzi (guitar), three Wayland High School students, enjoy making music together. All three plan on pursuing music after high school.

WHS Honors Jazz Ensemble

The Honors Jazz Ensemble is made up of Wayland High School musicians and is lead by Mr. Joe Oneschuck.

Abby McCarthy

Student
Abby McCarthy grew up in Wayland, MA with four older siblings. McCarthy is a poet, a chocolate lover, a runner and athlete, a shower singer, a feminist a french student, and the kind of person who does their homework. Abby writes original spoken word poetry with the WHS Poetry Slam Team.

Ariella Fuzaylov

Student
Ariella is a high school student with the belief that schools should teach unbiased and factual information about sex so that students can make their own informed choices. She is currently working alongside the wellness staff at Wayland High School to improve the the quality of the information provided about sex.

Callie Junkin

Student
Callie enjoys participating in sports such as soccer, lacrosse, and swimming, and spending time with friends. For the first half of her junior year she attended the Island School, a semester program in Eleuthera, Bahamas. While at the Island School she was able to pursue interests like exploring the environment and its issues.

Cameron O'Neill

Student
Cameron is president of WHS investment club and varsity soccer player. Cameron has a background in computer hardware programming and computer networking and is interested in how technology works. In particular, “I am interested in how technology affects us as a nation and influences our future.” Cameron fervently believes that everyone should know about the technology they use every day and how it is developed.

Joshua Lee

Student
As an African American male, Joshua Lee has a 1 in 3 chance of being incarcerated during his lifetime. He always knew that prison systems were corrupt, but paid little attention to the affects they had on communities filled with people of color. Little did he know, a book he would read in history class would change his views on incarceration systems forever.

Larissa Sehringer

Student
Larissa plans on studying fashion in college and becoming a designer. Her talk addresses fashion as an art, a story, and also an identity form that has helped her overcome obstacles, and lead her to her biggest achievements.

Lucas Montes Soza

Student
Lucas is a high school student who is starting up his own business devoted to online marketing. Lucas arrived in Wayland in the summer of 2015, having lived previously in Newton, Chile, and Spain. He enjoys alpine skiing, playing with his Great Dane, rock climbing, hiking, and generally being outdoors.

Philip McGonagle

Student
Philip plans to pursue a career in psychology and adolescent therapy. His talk addresses the issues he faced using his true and mature voice during a time of crisis and how he wants people his age to take the pen to their script and write the story to their own lives.

Rachel Lorenc

Student
Rachel is planning to attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall. She is an avid explorer and is always looking for another adventure. Her talk discusses recovery from an eating disorder, and how seeking adventure was pivotal to that recovery. She hopes her talk will increase empathy and understanding, as well as encourage those in a similar position to step out of their comfort zone and into a life worth living.

Tyler Johnsen

Student
Tyler is an avid singer and actor. He began singing in elementary school and performing in plays in middle school. He is now an active member of the Wayland High School Theater Ensemble and the all-male acapella group, the Testostertones.

Will Barton

Student
Will loves playing tennis, learning Chinese, and challenging himself. An internationally ranked Hearthstone player, Will plays for Team Archon and has been called a “prodigy” by PC Gamer.
