Adebola Daniel

Entrepreneur
“What I intend to speak on is about using the 'FORCE WITHIN’ to overcome any and all situations one might find themselves in. My speech will be entered around my story till date. It will explore how I have managed to deal with living with a disability and the stigma attached to it in the developing '3rd world’. Within this I’d explain how my accident happened, what it meant to me and my way of living, the physical and emotional challenges I faced and how I was able to get through it all and become comfortable in my own skin by accepting myself first then by believing in myself and ultimately pushing myself to be the best version of me using the 'force within.”

Edward Hughes

PhD Student
“What's the Matter with Gravity? Gravity is the weakest of all the fundamental forces. Yet it's the thorn in the side of theoretical physics. For 100 years, nobody has been able to reconcile Einstein's gravity with the spooky world of quantum mechanics. I'll explain why the force of gravity so stubbornly refuses to conform, and forecast the chances of a successful solution in the next century.”

Funmi Abari

Medical Student
“Fire in the belly - the question is not "what do you want to be?" but "who?" This talk will explore the issue with today's narrative. We are constantly 'forced' to think about positions, titles and careers. There is nothing wrong with this. But when this becomes the only question we are being asked and are answering - it becomes very problematic. We need to change the narrative. And focus on who we want to be, and the the 'whats'. This talk will also focus on how to find ways to motivate yourself and discovering your main positive drivers in life.”

“I would like to talk about 'inner force'. The force of an individual and the impact that has. The first idea would be surrounded round a personal experience of mine. I suffer with dyslexia, which has only recently been discovered. I would like to talk about self-believe as a force which most people lack. For years, I was labelled as 'stupid' or an 'idiot' which crippled any force I had to believe in myself. This is something I have experienced so often with an education system that does not test peoples intelligence but rather their ability to remember. Leaving people with no 'inner force' to believe in themselves or push for anything better. I would like to discuss this idea and try and push past this societal construct of intelligence and makes everyone realise that they have an inner force to achieve what they want in the world.”

“ ‘How we solve the refugee crisis’ - In this talk I will trace through history and identify prominent figures of migrant or refugee origin. I will show that civil society has been a strong force in the development of a pro-refugee narrative in Germany. Websites and services run by private individuals, extending job offers, available rooms and flats to share, and legal advice is just a few of the ways through which the Germans circumvented the state in helping the refugees. I will however add a twist in elaborating that the popularised "volunteering" we conduct abroad in Lesbos and Calais, is more harmful than it is helpful. My conclusion will be that the refugee crisis is solved through pressures on governments and local governments as opposed to naive altruism. I will attempt to also show a video from my own experience in Calais.

Sydney Goldsworthy

“The force of happiness: I’d like to compare happiness to gravity. Most people don’t even think about it. They get up in the morning and they find their feet firmly planted to the ground. They don’t (all) question how or why, and even those who do don’t do it all the time. The truth of the matter, as Newton so astutely figured out, is that gravity is a universal force. It is not specific to us, it existed without us, and it precedes us. It’s a force of nature, and we would really notice if it’s missing. I would argue that happiness is most effective in this sense, and that we are all connected and should attempt to remain as such.”
