Theme: From Exploration to Innovation

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Choral Stimulation

Choral stimulation is an award-winning a cappella group from Glasgow. From the House of Lords to the Edinburgh Fringe, they have performed all across the UK as well as raised hundreds of pounds for charity as the finalists of the BBC show ‘The Naked Choir’.

David Timis

David is a graduate of the University of Glasgow who, though currently committed to his role as UN Youth Delegate of Romania, has otherwise often had a strong inclination to hop between jobs.

Dr Carla Brown

Carla holds a PhD in microbiology at the University of Glasgow and is the founder and CEO of the social enterprise “Game Dr Ltd”. In order to raise awareness about the dangers of antibiotic resistance, she has designed the mobile game ‘Bacteria Combat’ as well as produced the educational film ‘Antibiotic Apocalypse’.

Dr Maggie Rostron

Dr Maggie Rostron is a qualified doctor by day, and pole dancing instructor by night, or even late afternoon. She has been a pole instructor for nearly 7 years, and recently went part-time as a doctor to focus on teaching pole and to open her own studio - West End Pole Dance Academy - in Glasgow.

Dr Stefan Hild

Dr Stefan Hild is a reader at the Institute for Gravitational Research at the University of Glasgow. His work focuses on the enhancement of the techniques used in ground-based Gravitational Wave detectors, such as the Advanced LIGO.

Dr Theodore Koutmeridis

Theodore Koutmeridis holds a PhD in Economics from Warwick University where he has been a Royal Economic Society Junior Fellow and an Onassis Scholar, while he is also a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh's Young Academy of Scotland. His work has been recognized with research, teaching and impact awards, such as the Sir Alec Cairncross Prize and grants by the European Science Days and the ESRC. Dr Koutmeridis is currently a CREATe Research Fellow in Economics at the University of Glasgow and a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University.

Karina Atkinson

Alumnus of the University of Glasgow and CEO of a not for profit organisation, “Fundacíon Para La Tierra” in Paraguay, Karina is a conservation biologist promoting protection of threatened habitats in Paraguay through scientific research, community engagement and education.

Miles Padgett

Miles Padgett holds the Kelvin Chair of Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow. Professor Padgett’s main area of research is the nature and use of light, and he is also the lead scientist of QuantIC, the UK’s Quantum Technology Imaging Hub.
