In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ed Marquand

Ed Marquand grew up in Southern California. After graduating with a studio art degree from Eastern Oregon State College in 1974, he returned to Los Angeles where he worked in graphic design studios, studied photography of artwork at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and taught professional practice classes and workshops at UCLA Extension and colleges around the state. He has been a creative director and graphic designer for over three decades. After moving from Los Angeles to Seattle, he started his design studio and Marquand Books in 1978, recently rebranded by he and his business partner, Adrian Lucia, to Lucia|Marquand. In 2006, Marquand expanded his design studio to Tieton, Washington, to develop projects incorporating art, design, graphic design, craft, and local enterprise. Mighty Tieton is now a decade old with several small studios under its banner. Through his career Marquand has consistently worked to connect the art world with the broader public in unusual and fresh ways.
