In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Kitty Hubbard

An artist and educator based in Rochester, New York. She is an Associate Professor of Art at the College at Brockport, State University of New York teaching analog, digital, and alternative photographic processes. She is the recipient of a 2016 Fulbright Research Fellowship in Wroclaw, Poland for her project “Mutual Respect: Site Speciofic Intersections”. The project is informed by personal narratives related to specific locations in the city, exploring themes of displacement, relocation, and memory through photographs and artist books. Hubbard's work includes photography, digital image making on traditional and non-traditional surfaces, sculptural artist books, as well as sculpture and installation projects. Her work has been included in over 80 exhibitions throughout the United States, Germany, and Poland.

Stefan Mertens

Biology and Geography teacher/polyglot

Born in Paderborn (Germany) in 1967 After having studied environmental-engineering and ecology (in Germany, Australia and Belgium) and some years of working experience Stefan Mertens changed his career and became a teacher for Biology, Geography and Technics at Pina-Bausch-Gesamtschule Wuppertal. Having experienced (still unofficial) exchange programs with Poland in 1985 being a high school student his ambition was later to start a twin-school program at his school. In 2010 Mr. Mertens got in contact with the Wuppertal twin city - chairmen to find twin-schools in Legnica (Poland) and Beer Sheva (Israel). Two projects started the same year with delegations from Legnica and Beer Sheva visiting each others schools and staying mostly at host families. Since then two exchanges have taken place with each school each year.
