In the last 16 years schools, have changed how they teach from 2000 to 2016 technology plays an even closer role we could have ever imagined. So now were asking whats next for the broad and ever expanding spectrum of education.

Ignacio Jayo

Science teacher; building partnerships for schools
Ignacio Jayo is a high school science teacher who is very interested in innovating education through the power of partnerships. He received a Physical Therapy degree from Duke University in 1997 and practiced as a physical therapist in various hospitals in Philadelphia. In 2003 he received a Master of Secondary Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation from Penn, he joined William Tennent High School where he is currently part of a team which is working to develop partnerships as a way to increase student opportunities and engagement. He is especially interested in developing long lasting partnerships that empower students, as well as teachers, to grow while working to create novel solutions to real-world problems alongside various industry professionals.

Jillian Axelrod

Student
Jillian Axelrod is interested in learning all about learning. Coming from a small Jewish school, she spent four years at Upper Dublin delving into language, writing, and music. After finishing her senior year at UDHS, she is beginning a project to explore personalized and project-based education, and to examine how different types of instruction can impact students, teachers, and communities. Next year, she will be continuing in the Joint Program at the Jewish Theological Seminary at Columbia University.

John Tralie

John Tralie has been teaching for 5 years and is working to crack the code to create life-long learners and to reach as many students as possible. He has an ear out for what makes a good teacher and what methods work best in a classroom and realizes it will be a continuing search. John has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and spent 25 years working an Aerospace Engineer for Lockheed Martin before becoming a teacher. His customers spanned NASA and all branches of the military. He is working to combine his industry experience with his life experiences to lead students through the forest to a rewarding life of learning.

Raymond Zhao

Student
Raymond Zhao is a sophomore in Upper Dublin Senior High. He is currently the President of a Toastmasters, and a member of the high school debate team. Of all things, thinking of concepts is his favorite past time.

Robert Reed

Robert K. Reed has spent most of his career in government service as an Assistant United States Attorney, including 20 years in criminal prosecution. Since 2001, Rob has been a supervisor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He has been the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Coordinator; Anti-Gang Coordinator; and the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. In 2010, Rob was appointed as the Executive Assistant United States Attorney and is responsible for overseeing the violence prevention, prisoner reentry, and community outreach initiatives for the office. Rob received the 2014 Department of Justice Director’s Award for his violence prevention and prisoner reentry efforts. Rob has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a Masters of Science Degree from the London School of Economics, and a law degree from Boston College Law School. Rob is married and has three children a dog named Scout and a cat named Lienus.

Tyler Lawson

Student
Tyler Lawson is a senior at Upper Dublin High School. She's interested in philosophy, history, law, politics, visual studies, and urban studies. Throughout her time in high school she has participated in orchestra, French club, Mock Trial, Speech and Debate, Teen Library Council, Model UN, and Black Student Union. In the fall she will be attending the University of Pennsylvania on the pre-law track.
