Archana Sardana
Archana Sardana is a complete adventure junkie. She is a skydiver, mountaineer and scuba diver. She is the first Indian to Skydive with the Indian Flag in USA. She has completed 335 skydives. She is also the first Indian to BASE (Building, Antenna, Span, Earth) Jump from the KL Tower, Malaysia with the Indian Flag and successfully completed 45 BASE Jumps. And that’s not her first ‘first’. Archana is also the First Indian to unfurl the Indian flag at 60 feet depth, and India’s only woman Master Scuba Diver Trainer certified by Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), USA.
Arsh Dilbagi
Creator of an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device, “Talk”, Arsh Shah Dilbagi is a high school student from Panipat, Haryana. At a young age of 16, Arsh was the first ever teen and the only finalist from Asia to enter the 2014 Google’s Global Science Fair for developing a device that helps people with developmental disabilities. “Talk” was his official entry at the fair.
Not only is the device extremely beneficial for people with developmental disabilities, it is also an affordable alternative to AAC devices sold in the market today. It is also a better alternative to the bulky AAC devices in the market today. People with disabilities such as Locked-In Syndrome and ALS will now be able to communicate using only their breath. “Talk” uses signals from a person’s breath via Morse code. The code is picked up by a sensor and is converted into speech.
Jyoti Reddy
Jyoti grew up in Mumbai in the PD'Mello Community and was then rehabilitated to Lalibhau Compound, Mankhurd. She along with her 2 younger brothers have been a part of the Akanksha Foundation and she has been an Akanksha student for 10 years. Jyoti recently graduated from St. Xaviers College in Arts and is presently working as an intern in a production company. She loves dancing, writing poetry, reading, watching films and hanging out with friends.
Kaustubh Dhargalkar
Kaustubh is an entrepreneur turned academic. He founded three companies from 1990 to 2005. All his companies were involved in productivity enhancement technologies on assembly lines of manufacturing plants. In 2005, he exited all three companies, took a year off to pursue the ancient science of Yoga and a year later plunged into research and academics. Kaustubh was recently awarded the ‘Entrepreneurship Educator & Mentor’ award by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship- Govt. of India. Currently, he is the Associate Dean of Business Design & Innovation at the WE School, Mumbai. He heads Innowe- Center for Innovation & Memetics, which is the Innovation lab on campus.
Vaibhav Chhabra
Vaibhav Chhabra is a mechanical engineer by profession but a carpenter by passion. A graduate from Boston University, Vaibhav spent 2 years of his career at EyeNetra, building eye diagnostic devices. A few years ago, when he moved to Mumbai, Vaibhav began ‘Makers Asylum.’ He essentially coupled his degree with his passion to create the first community Makerspace in India. He is also an instructor at MIT REDX, MIT Media Lab’s health teach lab in India. He enjoys making furniture, machines and winning at ping pong in his full time. His latest venture Jugaad Magazine hopes to spread the word about frugal and mainstream innovation in India to the world.
