Theme: Black or Pink

We chose 'black or pink' as an abstract theme. These colours can be interpreted metaphorically or symbolically in many ways and new connections can be made by each speaker. Two colours that are typically not used together like black and pink (rather than black or white, or grey) can help make our conference creative and diverse. The interpretations can be for example in terms of emotions (e.g. Black symbolising pessimism and pink symbolising optimism), gender (e.g. Pink is for girls - in Turkey men never wear pink). The colours can also be explored literally; for example in learning (e.g. how colours affect play, memory, psychology). For example in our community, we as teenagers are told to be logical in our career choices. Parents worry that we can not make enough money otherwise. One of our potential speakers wants to talk about emotion versus logic in our career choices (black symbolising logic, pink symbolising emotions to the speaker) I believe that bringing up new ideas about how we can think about choosing our careers will be very powerful. Also there have been a lot of issues on women's right on the news. One of our potential speakers wants to talk about how we culturally associate colour with gender. This can open up a new debate on this current issue in our community. In all, 'black or pink' is a very broad theme that can be explored in different ways.
