Brisa Gallarzo

Brisa has faced it all. Moving to a new place, learning to live with domestic abuse, and also learning how to get out of a dangerous situation. Brisa hopes that all young girls know there is a way out of domestic abuse by sharing her experience.

Damian Marroquin

16-year-old Damian Marroquin loves music, art, and spending time playing or listening to music. Damian is a self-proclaimed worrier, so he spends a lot of time alone, so he can relax. Despite being a person who prefers not to be in large crowds or talk in front of people, he feels passionate about informing others about the many important issues in life, one of which is the problem with animal abuse. He hopes to leave the audience with a better understanding of this issue as well as solutions for how they can help.

David Pulido

16-year-old David Pulido grew up in the south side of Chicago. David is a shy, quiet person, but when he needs to come out of his shell, he does. David puts a great emphasis on his education; he wants to share his understanding of the importance of education so that not only he, but everyone, is receiving a high quality education.

Ezequiel Barraza

Ezequiel Barraza grew up in Chicago, Illinois and was born right in Roseland. As a self-proclaimed contradiction, he believes in peace but still finds a strange fascination with war. Ezequiel will use his cynical and twisted sense of humor coupled with an analytic viewpoint that relies more on facts and logic than emotions to show the audience why world peace is needed.

J. Malik Dean

J. Malik Dean has been practicing poetry for all of his life. He is a proud member of the spoken word poetry organization Louder Than a Bomb and had a chance to share his poetry at TEDxCarverMilitaryAcademy 2015 as additional entertainment for the audience.

Jamison Reyna

16-year-old Jamison Reyna is a shy, sweet, and sensitive person. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He believes that everything happens for a reason--even the horrible things he has experienced growing up. His rough childhood led to his connection to the topic of suicide. Although afraid of speaking to a crowd, Jamison wants to help those who face the temptations of suicide. He wishes to inform others who are struggling that they are not alone, and that ending it all is not the answer to all of the problems and pain that they face.

Joseph Romero

Joseph Romero, a 15-year-old sophomore, spends the majority of his time playing games online with his friends or having deep, political conversations. Since 1st grade, he has been teased and bullied, so he has first-hand experience with the symptoms of bullying. His experience with bullying inspired him to inform others about this important issue. From the physical to the psychological symptoms to how many young people are affected each year, Joseph will make sure the audience walks away with vital information to this very serious and dangerous subject that continues to plague schools.

Kaitlyn Pumphrey

Kaitlyn is 16-years-old and the youngest of four. She was raised by her mom who motivated her greatly to be successful. She was born and raised in Chicago, a city she loves. In her opinion, addictions run the world today . She's hopes share her personal experiences with drug addictions so that young people will think twice before taking a substance.

Kennedi Simmons

Kennedi Simmons, a 16-year-old sophomore, is a very considerate and kind person. She loves being with family and friends. Although she is always laughing or smiling, she understand the deep societal pressures people face today to be the ideal, perfect person. She wants to inform others about the idea of beauty and help them to see themselves and perfect just the way they are.

Khamiya Ellis

Khamiya Ellis, a 16-year-old girl who was born and raised in the city of Chicago and is proud to say that she loves herself, because, sadly, many can’t say that they do. As a female in today's society she gets very confused on what to wear, and how to look to be able to be pretty like everyone else. It is really sad to see how society pressures girls and women to try to meet unrealistic ideas of beauty. Khamiya hopes to help the audience to recognize society's pressure on them and to encourage them to show society that they are perfect just how they are.

Maria Vitela

Maria is known for her nurturing ability help those in need. Maria uses this characteristic in conjunction with her extensive research on domestic violence to help others cope with being a victim of domestic violence.

Miriam Martinez

Miriam Martinez is a 16-year-old who was born in Mexico. She came to the United States with her family at age six and was raised in Chicago, IL. As years passed, life became more and more complicated for her. She was getting bullied at school for not speaking the same language, for not being born in the United States, and for not being able to go out because she feared she might be deported. This was just the beginning of what she had to go through. By sharing her story, she hopes to convince people that everyone is a human no matter where they come from and that the time for immigration reform is now.

Natalie Villa

Natalia Villa, a 16-year-old sophomore, was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She grew up in a family where traditional food was important but also grew up seeing the affects food can have on personal health. Poor eating habits and addictive toxic food took away one of the most important people in Natalia's life: her grandma. After the loss of her grandma she had new concerns for others in her family. Because of this, she made a promise to better herself and spread awareness of the food industry's "hustle" informing others of how living a healthy lifestyle is important and beneficial.

Raul Ortega

Raul Ortega, a 16-year-old who has a love and passion for cars, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Raul is kind-hearted and caring. Writing, like poems, stories, is one of his skills. Raul understands his skill's connection to education and appreciates the need for quality education, which is why he feels it is important to share his understanding with others and encourage them to do better and put education first.

Salvador Cardenas

Salvador Cardenas is a 16 year old who was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He's seen his fair share of violence, and he's sick and tired of all the unnecessary violence. He and his partner want to make the world a better place for the future generations. He hopes his speech will help people take a step into the right direction in order to install peace in the world.

Tyrek Williams

15-year-old Tyrek Williams is a very talkative and outgoing person. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and lives with his mother, sister, and step-dad. Tyrek loves to play sports with his friends and family--his favorite being basketball. Growing up without a father was hard on Tyrek, but he knew his mother loved him, so it didn't bother him. Informing others about suicide is important to him because it connects to a lot of people, and he wants to help increase awareness on this important issue.

Zaira Ramos

Zaira Ramos is a sixteen-year old who was born in Mexico and raised in Chicago. She lives with both parents, a sister, and two younger brothers. She enjoys swimming, volleyball, and spending time with family. She is ready to share her personal experience dealing with addictions. She hopes that by speaking out about her family’s addiction to alcohol, she can change people's perspective on addicts and of addictions in today’s world.
