In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Blake Fields

Blake Fields is a 9th grade student at MBJH. His interests include performing arts, hanging out with friends and doing well in school. His personal experiences of being bullied are the focus of his talk as he encourages others to speak out.

While participating in a service project, Claire discovered a real problem many people face, food deserts. She hopes that we can become the solution.

Donald Clayton

Donald Clayton is the principal of Mountain Brook Junior High. He has served students as an educator since he began teaching American History and coaching basketball in 2003.

Evan Pezant

Evan Pezant is a junior at Oak Mountain High School. He is a singer/songwriter and guitarist, and his passion is music and performance. Ever since he was five years old, he has been drawn to singing. He first started performing at the age of seven with the children’s choir. Ever since that first performance, he knew he wanted to become one of the greats. He then became a member of the Birmingham Boys Choir and trained under Ken Berg.

Henry Gaede

Henry Gaede is a ninth-grade student at Mountain Brook Junior High. Hunting and fishing in the wetlands of Louisiana, Henry learned to love nature, but he started to notice something terrifying - the wetlands are disappearing.

Mason Hemstreet

After hearing that the national average police response time is ten minutes, Mason realized this glaring problem needs to be addressed and it needs to be solved.

Nina Reeves

Nina Reeves, a Mountain Brook Resident who just celebrated her 90th birthday, is infamous for her storytelling. Previously the Youth Director for the Methodist Church in the North Alabama Conference for over 40 years, Nina has influenced and empowered youth not only with her storytelling, but with her leadership. A fan of Appalachian stories, Nina will shared the art of storytelling with TEDxYouth@MBJH.

Robert Goolsby

Robert Goolsby is an eighth-grade student at Mountain Brook Junior High. He is very interested in redesigning how we teach language in schools.

Wilson Higgins

Wilson Higgins, a 9th grader at Mountain Brook Junior High enjoys playing sports and spending time with friends.
