In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Anna Jung

Originally from Korea, Anna was attending the 5th grade at the Western Academy of Beijing when she gave this talk. Anna is passionate about the unique ways we can transform cities to be even more accessible to the people living in them.

Brynn Somerville

Born in Australia, Brynn is passionate about making people believe, as she does, that they are good enough to go after whatever dream they may have. A student at the Western Academy of Beijing, Brynn recent completed the bronze award towards the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Dr. Gareth Kennedy

Gareth is an applied mathematics researcher with publications in astrophysics, electrochemistry and computational chemistry. Since receiving his Ph.D. in astrophysics he has since worked in Spain, Australia and China. In his spare time he dabbles in oil painting.

Elita Gendler

Elita holds both Cambodian and American citizenship, as she was adopted from Cambodia. She has lived in Hong Kong, Philadelphia and Beijing.

Helena Zeng

Born and raised in Beijing, Helena is a High School student at the Western Academy of Beijing. A passionate environmentalist and conservationalist, Helena co-founded the Duck Lake Project (a student led environmental group), which won first place in the Student Conference of Conservation Science hosted by the Shan Shui Conservation Center and the Peking University Center for Nature & Society. She was also selected by the prestigious Hong Zhi environmental forum as one of the ten most influential environmentalist of 2014.

Kiera Murphy

Born in San Diego, Kiera has lived most of her life abroad in Morocco and China. She is passionate about anything to do with reading, writing and helping animals. As a high school student at the Western Academy of Beijing, she is active in a number of student action groups that focus on gender equality, assisting local orphanages and animal rescue.

Lukas Draugelis

Lukas's passion is for photography. He won two awards in photo competitions for the culture and landscape categories. Many of his photos have been auctioned at charity events and sold at local charity bazaars.

Nichole Thornton

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Nichole has lived in America and China. She is involved in Track & Field and is part of the student council.

Peyton Walston

At 10 years old, Peyton has seen an experienced much in his life. Since his family had the opportunity to live abroad and travel, Peyton has taken full advantage of this. When he isn't traveling and exploring, he likes to skateboard, rollerblade, ride his BMX bike and cook with his dad.

Ritika Govindan

Ritika is a motivate learner whose passion for digging deeper into issues in her local community lead to a path volunteerism.
