The Japanese word “en-” represents “special connection,” which creates and fosters new “en-”counters in human race. The word “en-” is also known as a prefix, which activates nouns, and vibrate our “en-”gagement. Through TEDxUTokyo2015, we hope your “en-” will be more widened and accelerated, and finally, things start moving as you wish.

In this year of TEDxUTokyo, we would like to share our aspiration that all members and participants will embrace the future in great WONDER of “en-” that enables IDEAs to come true.

TEDxUTokyo is a collaboration with TED that gave birth to Japan’s first TEDxUniversity. The framework of TEDx is to help fulfil the role that a university is to play in society, which is to be an embodiment of knowledge, and since 2012, TEDxUTokyo has been hosting talks with the traction that TEDx provides. TEDxUTokyo is the largest TEDxUniversity that invites as many as 15 speakers to talk about Japan’s future through organized talk sessions with 400 audience members. Since 2014, we have begun to deepen our community through hosting full TED content packed small-scale events like TEDxSalon, TED video live streaming sessions, and idea sharing event TEDxLive. In business, the arts, and the fusion of academic fields, from our community, we strongly believe that we will give birth to innovators who will form the spine of Japan’s future.

Hirofumi Ono

Do you also have a dream which is almost daydream? Do you also find such dreams impossible? You will feel to come closer to your dream than ever through the talk of Mr. Hirofumi Ono.

Hironao Kato

As a pioneer, Mr. Kato is researching on “the fusion of the six senses of human beings and technology”, which is a theme that goes beyond what we call next-generation tools, for example HMDs and wearable terminals. His idea that 3D printers are full of hints about how our future is supposed to be like, is very worth spreading.

Hiroshi Mitani

I heard that the reason why the professor chose Japanese history as his major is that he went through student movements when he was a student of the university of Tokyo and realized that he knew nothing about Japan; therefore, decided to understand the world from studying about Japan. He recognizes Komaba where freshmen and sophomores of the University of Tokyo study as “place to initiate study for just graduated students”. I thought I need to spread his idea to many people including students before Professor Mitani who believe that a role of teachers is to prevail necessity of thinking about current problem of us living in this age retire the university.

Kaoru Saito

If you have experiences concerning with the nature, it deserves worship; on the other hand, it is of the scientific interest of analysis. He shows how beautiful the nature is, based on scientific data with his sincere love to nature. The formative experience is fundamental interest for him and that is the very “ideas worth spreading”.

Kei Kaihoh

In a world where media is constantly developing, the world we encounter is constantly changing. In fact, the change in architecture plays a significant role in this development. However, it is very difficult for one architect to design future experiences; there's a need for everyone to have an awareness towards the future.

Masaaki Mezaki

There is a society. For what? Mr.Mezaki analyze "happy" based on the data of international cultural analysis, besides the usual concept of idealism, generationism, and nationalism. The question discuss "happy" for not only individuals but also for the society. If you feel tired of your work, or if you have some question for "happy", it's time to get this idea from him.

Masao Hirano

Mr. Hirano asks the audience: “Why the company and organization cannot change?” This question is the reason that we ask him to give presentation. TEDxUTokyo2015 is organized to make UTokyo the centre of knowledge, and we hope his TEDx talk makes you consider why we cannot change; how management is different from leadership.

Noriko Ishizaka

She has rebuilt the industrialization waste utilization through an approach to management, but we feel that her instinctive senses as a woman has contributed greatly to her success. The society from the perspective of industrial waste utilization itself and its prospect is the real image of our future society, and this is exactly why her message is significant.

Reiko Kuroda

There she talked about her plans and experiences as a technological interpreter. There are many young participants here at TEDxUTOKYO, so I believe there are many more people like me who wants to be inspired by prof. Kuroda.

Xuechunzi Bai

As I was born in a developed country, Japan, I unconsciously felt that Japan “provided” developing countries supports and is superior to them. Although her experience was within China, it was new awareness that this consciousness prevented these developing countries to develop. Also, her act based on her new awareness was not very easy thing to do by oneself and impressed me too enough to vote her.

Yuki Takeda, a former student of the University of Tokyo, won Teenage Male Grand Champion at 37th and 38th International Whistlers' Convention. You will find his ideas worth spreading with his special talent of expressing beautiful music by whistling which uses no musical instruments but our body itself only. In addition to the whistling, he is also familiar with Venezuelan music, both of which may belong to the unknown world for many and are quite unfamiliar. It is certainly impressive that he tries and succeeds in such musical fields by himself.
