Abby

Abby is a high school freshman in Westchester County, New York. She is an avid debater and soccer player participating in both high school and club teams, as well the robotics club in her school. Outside of school, Abby loves reading, photography, playing guitar, listening to music, doing crosswards and binge-watching Netflix, but her real passion is writing. She enjoys hearing people vocalize their opinions and thoughts on all topics through different types of media. Her talk at TEDxLaSierraUniversity was the first public presentation of her work.

Alpin Hong

Whirlwind American tours and performances across the globe have earned pianist Alpin Hong the reputation as a modern day Pied Piper. From Walt Disney Music Hall to the White House, his combination of stunning technique, emotional range, and rare humor continues to bring audiences young and old to their feet.

Charlie Zhang

From humble beginnings in his native Shanghai, Charles Zhang came to America in 1980 with twenty dollars in his pocket. He worked as a dishwasher and gas station attendant before founding Pick Up Stix, the popular take-out chain, and Zion Enterprises, a real estate company dedicated to revitalizing communities. He has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young and is the winner of the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor, recognized by Congress and awarded to immigrants who have made a significant contribution to the United States.

Frankie Johnson

Francesca “Frankie” O. Johnson loves you. Frankie loves studying humans – their behavior, biology, motives, and quirks. She is a 15 year old finishing her sophomore year at Mesa High School in Murrieta with a long list of athletic & academic awards.

Mike Johnston

Mike Johnston is a renowned drummer, but his greatest passion is for education. He currently runs the world’s biggest educational website for drummers, where he offers live and pre-‐recorded drum lessons. He began studying the drums at the age of five and spent the next fifteen years studying privately with drumming legends Pete Magadini, Steve Ferrone, and Will Kennedy.

Paul Dickau

Paul C Dickau is the Executive Director of Help for the Hurting Inc. dba Helping Hands Pantry and handles daily operations of the organization. Before entering the nonprofit sector Mr. Dickau gained over 20 years experience in the for profit business sector and retired as a senior partner of a Venture Capital firm that he founded. Upon retirement Mr. Dickau chose to pursue philanthropy and service. After starting a project aimed at increasing involvement in the community by giving food and clothing to those in need his focus shifted to this problem. Mr. Dickau is a founding member of the Food Policy Advisory Council of San Bernardino County, member of the Advisory Board for the DEN (Delivering Emergency Nourishment) at California State University San Bernardino, member of Crossroads Rotary, and member of the County Nutrition Action Plan Summer Meals subcommittee. He received his B.S. from California State University San Bernardino and his M.Div MBA from La Sierra University.

Ryan Berk

Ryan Berk has worked most of his life in the food industry. As a young man, he worked his way up to become a Chef at one of Southern California’s casinos, where he learned how to run a kitchen and manage a large staff. Ryan’s love of food and culture led him and his wife to open à la minute, a liquid nitrogen ice cream shop, in 2012. à la minute focuses on using local ingredients and knowing how and where these ingredients are grown and produced. The love and support of the local community has enabled him to expand and he now has shops in Redlands, Orange and Claremont. Ryan’s interest in knowing where his food comes from led him to open Parliament Chocolate, a bean to bar chocolate factory. Ryan visits Central America almost quarterly to meet farmers and learn of their cacao growing practices.

Tania Mulry

Bestselling author of "The Cause," Tania is a tech entrepreneur, digital marketing and product development consultant, award-winning mobile app developer honored by Microsoft, AT&T and Computerworld, and an Adjunct Professor at USC, teaching interactive design for mobile devices. She led mobile payments and information product development initiatives for MasterCard Worldwide, and worked on the core strategy team leading up to their record breaking IPO. She has developed cutting edge digital marketing campaigns for an impressive roster of companies and professional sports teams like AT&T, JCPenney, GameStop, Brinkers (Chili’s), Nintendo, Nokia, RIM, LG, State Farm, Kimberly-Clark (Huggies), Frito-Lay (Doritos), Monster.com, The United States Air Force, the San Diego Chargers, the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankees, the San Francisco Giants, and the San Antonio Spurs.
