"Luke. I am your father." -- one of the most famous plot twists in cinema. No one going into Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back would ever have expected that the series' biggest bad-guy was father to their hero. Often the most compelling and fulfilling stories contain plot twists just like this one. It is at these intersections of the unexpected with reality and surprise with fact where the most exciting ideas are found.

For our speakers, their lives and lives' work have been fundamentally shaped at the crossroads of expectation and actuality. Today, they share with us these stories and the successes they sparked by deconstructing happiness to reveal the truth beneath our societal obstructions; revisiting age-old ideas in the context of the present day; and rediscovering the core of passions un-muddled by the pressure of external dogma.

From this variety of backgrounds, disciplines, and interests, we've found one thing in common -- a commitment to embracing the unexpected.
