Adelaide is realising the potential in its night-time economy. Policymakers, creators, entrepreneurs and citizens are reshaping our expectations of what can be achieved at night by pioneering reform, investment and participation outside the 9-to-5.
What better time to be discussing night-time ideas, than at night?
40 people braved the night owl life to join TEDxAdelaide for a Midnight Feast as we explored ways of dreaming, building and making real the city we want. We celebrated the achievements of South Australian artist Jason Sweeney as he presented live from the TEDCity2.0 conference in New York on his groundbreaking project Stereopublic - a collaboration with Freerange Future that fuses art and technology to explore quiet spaces in urban landscapes.
We showed two sessions of TEDCity2.0 live.
Session 1: Redefining Citizen (10:30pm - Midnight ACST)
Hosted by Chris Anderson
Session 2: Reinventing Urban Experience (12:30am - 1:30am)
Hosted by Courtney Martin
With Jason Sweeney
In addition to the Livestream, our audience enjoyed:
* A walking and listening tour through Adelaide's night-time environment with Stan Mahoney
* A collaborative Midnight Feast
* Ambient music live set by Jason's collaborator and Freerange Developer Yuri Tomanek
People brought a bottle, a plate and their ears as we used sound and hearing to characterise our city's after-dark persona and imagine what a productive night-time economy could sound like in Adelaide.
TEDxAdelaide City2.0 was free with the support of our participants and partners Freerange Future, Rising Sun Pictures, Kwik Kopy Hilton and Bridge8.
