Why you should listenPatricia Villarrubia-Gómez focuses on plastics pollution and how it can affect Earth's system processes and people. A systems thinker, her efforts focus on understanding the interconnections between science, policy and society. Her research includes finding early evidence of how the impacts of plastics pollution have taken humanity outside a safe operating space, as defined by the nine planetary boundaries. She also combines insights from natural and social sciences to research the power dynamics and issues related to social and environmental justice in the context of plastics pollution.
