Dan Jørgensen is the Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark, tasked with reducing the country’s emissions by 70 percent by 2030 and closing down its oil industry.

Why you should listen

Dan Jørgensen grew up in rural Denmark as an avid bird-watcher and outdoorsman. As he came of age and enrolled in university, climate and environmental concerns motivated him to enter politics and becoming a member of the Danish Social Democratic Party.

In 2019, Jørgensen was appointed Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities and tasked with the job of achieving the world's most ambitious climate target: to reduce Denmark's greenhouse-gas emissions by 70 percent by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

Seeing climate change as the defining issue of his generation, Jørgensen thinks the world need to act now to avoid a global environmental disaster. His vision is for Denmark's bold climate targets and successful adoption of renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind, to serve as an inspiration to other countries.
