TEDx organizers picked November 20, United Nations Universal Children’s Day, to host multiple events for youth across the world in every time zone over this 24-hour period.
The vision for our event was conceived to support the President’s initiative for STEM education. Working through school districts, we seek to cast a wide net to reach students ages 13-18, who have been identified as interested and possessing potential, but who are not pursuing STEM related study. We will immerse them in a scientific and technologically rich environment, exposing them to personal development messaging aimed at cultivating the belief that they can indeed reach these dreams. Adding to this stimulating venue will be various displays and many exciting interactive exhibits, including the newly released, phenomenally realistic Eyes On the Solar System application. Our presenters are diverse, among them a scientist, an science educator, a social networking expert, a poet and an activist. The activities in between sessions will involve both fun and learning. Our theme, Be Astronomical! is a nod to the science and inspiration to be incorporated throughout.
