Theme: Communication in a broken society

The first edition of TEDxLaCarolina is about ‘Communication in a broken society’. Ecuador is a country with a cultural diversity which has lead to a certain fragmented society, that´s why we want to perform our event, between different groups of people, separated by different kind of races, educational patterns, social and economic levels, strong inequality with different histories and desires and among them; perhaps, the uppermost objective is to find harmony. As Southamerican, in general, and as ecuadorians in particular, our people has been trained in "polemos" (greek for war) but not for dialogue, which meant in ancient Greece "reasoning among various people". In order to get a real dialogue, we think the very first step is to recognize ourselves between us, to know what other ecuadorians do and think and desire. The main purpose of our TEDx is to help to understand the importance of taking care of the "other" (alter), to show that is possible to respect "other" and the most important way to do that is to know what other people think, because their ideas and stories are worth to be spreading.
