Baruun-Urt, Sühbaatar

2016 represents the fourth consecutive year that a TEDxBaruunUrt event will be held in Mongolia's Sukhbaatar province. Baruun-Urt (the capital city of Sukhbaatar province) is one of only two places in all of Mongolia to have hosted a TEDx event. In an effort to embrace such an important and pioneering legacy to the fullest, this year's TEDxBaruunUrt aims to be bigger and better than ever!

In previous years, TEDxBaruunUrt staff had primarily focused on bringing ideas to local residents from places beyond their hometown. Given the intense interest that had been expressed by community members in being a part of this year's TEDx event, however, TEDxBaruunUrt staff have decided to direct their event theme search inward. The end result of such soul searching has been the construction of TEDxBaruunUrt's most diverse speaker and performer list to date, with speakers and performers representing a sizable cross-section of the local population. Whereas previous years' TEDx events have catered to local youth (especially secondary school students), this year's event seeks to draw the interest of young professionals and senior citizens as well. Thus, the 2016 iteration of TEDxBaruunUrt will see local residents from all demographics become more informed about the many great ideas they have that are worth spreading. As interest in TEDxBaruunUrt continues to increase from year to year, our TEDxBaruunUrt staff can only hope that the 2016 version of this event matches the lofty heights reached by its predecessors.

Batkhuu B.

11th Grade Secondary School Student
Mr. B. Batkhuu represents some of the best qualities that Baruun-Urt's youth have to offer. As an 11th grade student at one of Baruun-Urt's public secondary schools, Mr. B. Batkhuu has spent several years near or at the top of every single one of his classes. Poised to graduate with honors next summer, Mr. B. Batkhuu envisions himself working as a successful businessman at one of the many financial firms located in Ulaanbaatar (the national capital of Mongolia). Although Mr. B. Batkhuu has many different interests, he most enjoys honing his flute-playing skills and paying close attention to developments within the various international stock exchanges. If things continue as they are, it might only be a short time before Mr. B. Batkhuu becomes a major player on said international exchanges.

Davaadorj B.

Counselor at the Baruun-Urt Youth Center
Having grown up with a steady stream of love and support from his mother, Mr. B. Davaadorj considers himself to be very fortunate. Although there is an ever increasing population of youth in Baruun-Urt, many of the young boys and girls in this city are forced to cope with the absence of encouragement and guidance. In order to help less fortunate youth have the opportunity to experience the care and assistance necessary to becoming productive members of society, Mr. B. Davaadorj works as one of the lead counselors at the Baruun-Urt Youth Center. Whether providing academic support, health classes or emotional therapy, Mr. B. Davaadorj works to treat Baruun-Urt's youth like the future that they are.

Khosbayar D.

Vice Governor of Baruun-Urt
Mr. D. Khosbayar has led a distinguished life in both the private and public sector. Beginning his career as a project manager for various construction companies based out of Mongolia's Sukhbaatar province, Mr. D. Khosbayar has used his intimate knowledge of promoting and sustaining urban development to run for and become elected to the position of Baruun-Urt's vice governor. One of the key characteristics of Mr. D. Khosbayar's vice governorship has been his knack for drawing financial investment to Baruun-Urt from a variety of wealthy Mongolian companies. Mr. D. Khosbayar has used the increased financial investment in Baruun-Urt as a means to create more stable and financially rewarding employment for local residents.

Munkhzorig Kh..

Mr. Kh. Munkhzorig possesses years of experience in digital technology. He uses his skills to run his own graphic design business, as well as help out various local causes. Mr. Kh. Munkhzorig also does occasional camera work for one of the local news stations. While Mr. Kh. Munkhzorig has always been a critical part of TEDxBaruunUrt's success, he took his participation to another level in 2016 by acting as both the event's technical director and master of ceremonies.

Ninj-Erdene Kh.

President of the Mongolian English Teachers' Cooperative
Ms. Kh. Ninj-Erdene has one of the most accomplished backstories of any TEDxBaruunUrt speaker. After falling in love with foreign languages and cultures at an early age, Ms. Kh. Ninj-Erdene has developed her English speaking abilities into a full-fledged (and highly decorated) career. Since traveling to, studying at and graduating from an American university, Mrs. Kh. Ninj-Erdene has spent the majority of her life working in Ulaanbaatar (the national capital of Mongolia) as both an English language instructor and an English language curriculum director. In her current position as head of the Mongolian English Teachers' Cooperative, Ms. Kh. Ninj-Erdene works on improving rural English teachers' understanding of and ability to teach English in an immersive manner.

Oyuntulkhuur M.

12th Grade Secondary School Student
Ms. M. Oyuntulkhuur has lived a life characterized by being loud and proud. A 12th grade student at one of Baruun-Urt's public secondary schools, Ms. M. Oyuntulkhuur approaches her looming graduation with increasing excitement for the future. Widely regarded as one of the best singers in all of Baruun-Urt, Ms. M. Oyuntulkhuur's powerful voice and love for all different kinds of music has helped her carve out a distinguished singing career in Mongolia's Sukhbaatar province. Ms. M. Oyuntulkhuur hopes to translate the fame she has garnered in her own province all across Mongolia, thereby allowing her to become a shining light for her rapidly developing nation.

Sumiyagaraw O.

9th Grade Secondary School Student
Ms. O. Sumiyagaraw is currently the youngest individual to ever speak and/or perform at a TEDxBaruunUrt event. Despite being only 15 years old, Ms. O. Sumiyagaraw has developed a reputation as one of the best dancers in all of Mongolia's Sukhbaatar province. Blessed with tremendous speed and agility, Ms. O. Sumiyagaraw is able to perform the complex movements of Mongolian dance with ease. Ms. O. Sumiyagaraw has performed in many different concerts throughout her brief tenure as a dancer, with her ultimate goal being to perform in concerts all across Mongolia.

Tushigt-Erdene D.

11th Grade Secondary School Student
Possessing a nearly complete mastery of the English language and a voracious appetite for books, Mr.D. Tushigt-Erdene has emerged as perhaps the most highly honored student in all of Baruun-Urt. Mr. D. Tushigt-Erdene has credited his fluency in English to the motivation and valuable life lessons that were provided to him by the many famous characters of English language literature (especially Harry Potter). As Mr. D. Tushigt-Erdene prepares to graduate from secondary school next summer (and subsequently travel to the United States), he hopes to encourage other Mongolian students to make a full-time investment in learning a foreign language.
