In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Andrew Thorp

Andrew Thorp was born in Leeds, raised in Lythm St Annes and as a young man lived in Canada and the USA. Spending his early career within the golf and leisure industries Andrew decided it was time for a change and in 2006 decided to become a public speaker and coach. Andrew was voted 'Speaker of the Year 2014' by the Association of Professional Coaches, Trainers & Consultants and has spoken at two previous TEDX events. Andrew founded the school of Mojo, helping companies to use storytelling to engage with their external audience and to drive organisational change. Working primarily with leaders and sales teams to give company representatives a better story to tell, and the skills to deliver it well. Andrew’s clients include KPMG, Coca-Cola Hellenic and Unilever. Andrew coached golf to a high standard, edited a golfing publication and refereed at Ryder Cup matches.

Andy Fewtrell

No stranger to public speaking Andy Fewtrell has been entertaining audiences with his lively performances for several years, speaking on topics including innovation and risk management. The award winning managing director of the Up And Under Group graduated with a degree in civil engineering from Nottingham Trent University in 1986. In recognition of his work with the Up And Under Foundation, a charity set up to allow youngsters to enrich their lives through access to the great outdoors, Andy was selected by the London Olympics Organising Committee to carry the Olympic flame through Crewe. Among his numerous adventures Andy took part in the Moroccan Tuareg Desert Rally eventually placing third in his Defender 90.

Catherine Sandland

Catherine Sandland is a presentation skills trainer and owner of White Hart Training. Catherine’s early career was focused in human resource management but eventually she felt the pull towards a career in learning development. These days Catherine specialises in working with small firms, solo businesses and particularly women in small business. Catherine is determined to help people find their voice in business by aiding them with their presentation skills and public speaking. After trying her hand at stand-up comedy and with a passion for Gilbert and Sullivan, Catherine has recently discovered the joys of exercise. Dog walking, outdoor 6am exercise classes three times a week and the bug must have bitten hard because she’s just signed up for her first Badassmucker race.

Debbie Hayes

Debbie Hayes has enjoyed a diverse career background including water engineering, brick manufacturing and telecommunications. A proud single mother and chocoholic Debbie is now a self-employed business coach with a mission to help large organisations, small business owners and individuals achieve success without sacrifice. In the wake of her accident and using her own philosophies on work life balance Debbie created her own business with the emphasis on being able to spend more time with her son.

Dr. Jonathan Griffiths

Originally from the West Midlands Dr Jonathan Griffiths studied medicine at Manchester University before taking a post as a Junior Doctor in Birmingham. Quickly deciding that his future laid in general practice, Jon qualified as a GP in 1998 spending some time working in South Staffordshire before moving to Nantwich in 2005. Working as a GP in Winsford in 2013 he became the Clinical Chairperson for NHS Vale Royal Clinical Commissioning Group, covering 102,000 patients around the region. An active man, Jon has taken part in several half marathons including New York and has completed the Saunders Lakeland Marathon nine times.

Philippa Richford

Born in Lancashire, raised in Cornwall, no wonder Philippa Richford considers herself half northerner, half southerner. Voice of local community radios CAT FM breakfast show, Philippa is about to launch a new project hosting a Jazz show, a genre she has been passionate about for years. When she’s not on the radio Philippa works at a local college and is completing her Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Philippa moved to Nantwich in 2005 and lives with her partner and two children. She’s passionate about travelling having taken a camper van throughout France and Italy. After travelling there recently its Philippa’s ambition to live and work in Japan.

Sara Knowles

People are defined by their experiences. Having witnessed some of the effects of the Balkan conflict of the 90’s, narrowly escaping a mortar attack and experiencing first-hand the devastation caused by cultural difference, there’s little wonder that Sara Knowles was set on the path to becoming an international trade adviser. Sara’s insightful talk explores the meaning of cultural fluency and its significance to us as citizens and business leaders of a globalised world. She also addresses the importance of languages for international trade and cultural relations. Sara's career has taken her to over 30 countries as a project manager, business owner and international trade adviser. She speaks several languages including Slovene, a language spoken by only approximately 2 million people. Sara now resides in Cheshire and still enjoys international adventures - she launched her 'Alps to Andes' challenge earlier this year and raised funds for charity by trekking to Machu Picchu in Peru.

Sarah Short

Sarah Short is a master business coach, sales mentor and trainer. She is a passionate advocate for self-employment and founder of The Sales Academy For Girls. Sarah works with businesses of all sizes, from one-woman-bands to companies with multi-million pound turnovers helping them get out of their own way and achieve their business goals. During an eventful early career Sarah opened and ran her own English language school and ran a franchised branch of a drama school both in the UK and in Botswana. Sarah currently resides in the Lake District with her family, three cats and a dog. She plays the piano and has recently learnt the whole of the second movement of Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata in C Minor.
