TEDxTallaght brings together inspired thinkers and curious souls for an evening of thought provoking talks. This year we welcome speakers from many disciplines who each want to achieve a deeper understanding of the world. From hydrogen powered pollution free cars, to hearing it for the creative entrepreneur, from decision making all the way to mind control and much much more. TEDxTallaght promises to be a fascinating and inspiring evening.

Barbara Moynihan

Presentations Coach
Barbara is the founder of OnYourFeet.ie, a presentations training company based in Dublin with clients across Ireland and the UK. Barbara has a natural talent for helping people to stand up and speak with confidence and influence, while still remaining true to their own personality and presenting style. As a presentations coach she works with a vast variety of people - young and old, senior executives to new hires and students, educated to uneducated. She has found that regardless of age, title, experience or education, many people consider themselves to be “stupid” – when in actual fact they have a particular type of “intelligence” that is not always recognised. This is the topic she explores in her talk. Despite having no third level qualifications and leaving school with very average results, she has developed her own innate intelligence and is a mentor and coach to companies and clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 executives.

Denise Fitzsimons

Graduate
Denise is a recent graduate of Trinity College and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Geography. During her 4 years at Trinity College she devoted a lot of time to voluntary activities. Having seen first-hand how the opportunities from the Trinity Access Program can benefit students, she devoted a large portion of her time during her degree to the TAP Program, visiting disadvantaged secondary schools presenting inspiring speeches to those students who may feel that a third level education is beyond their ability. Having just completed a scholarship and internship with Salesforce, a cloud computing company devoted to Corporate Social Responsibility, Denise has had great voluntary opportunities throughout her internship including; speaking with students on a career program from Citywise, working at the Women’s Tiglin Centre and the DSPCA. Denise is passionate about social justice, education and gender equality rights and hopes to use her passion to inspire others to joi

Gary Tyrell

Environmental Educator
A Tallaght native, Gary has spent most of his life living in the area, He has always been an admirer of the outstanding natural beauty that his locality has to offer. Ever since he was a young boy scout, Gary has always relished being outdoors. It is this early enjoyment and appreciation of the outdoors that has led to a shift in career, from a stable job as an engineer for a multi-national company, to a less stable, but ultimately more enriching career as an environmental educator. Having achieved a 1st Class Honours in Energy & Environmental Engineering and a Masters in Environmental Policy, he now lectures in IT Tallaght, teaches outdoor education with Sonairte and Coillte's 'Compass Club', voluntarily gives talks about climate change as one of Al Gore's 'Climate Reality Leaders', is a Dublin Mountain Ranger, takes part in local clean ups and is an activist with Friends of the Earth.

Helen Fields

Life Coach
Helen has had a long career in healthcare, MSc in Advanced Surgical Care and 25 years’ experience of complementary health practices and personal development. No stranger to adventure and adversity having lived and worked in Iran and Zimbabwe (1977-1984), then living in Switzerland (1984-7) before returning to UK. In 2006 on the move again to North Cyprus (2006 to 2015). Now settled in South Wales UK Helen is full of life, motivated, passionate and grateful: willing to share her experiences to stand shoulder to shoulder, guiding clients across the stepping stones of life. Through massive life changes to a full and abundant life. Drawing on her own life experiences combined with her professional background Helen’s mission is to share tools for life and to remind clients how amazing human beings are.

James O'Keefe

Cardiologist
James H O'Keefe MD, is a Board Certified Cardiologist and Director of both the Charles & Barbara Duboc Cardio Health & Wellness Center and the Preventive Cardiology service at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute. He is also Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His postgraduate training included a cardiology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr O’Keefe is board-certified in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiac CT Imaging. He is consistently ranked among the ‘Top Doctor’ lists regionally and nationally as one of America’s Top Rated Physicians in Cardiology. He has been named as one of USA Today’s Most Influential Doctors. Dr O’Keefe has contributed more than 300 articles to the medical literature and has authored best-selling cardiovascular books for health professionals including: The Complete Guide to ECGs (which is used for Cardiology Board Certification), Dyslipidemia Essentials, and Diabetes Essential.

Kate Kotova

Graduate
Graduate of Trinity College Dublin, studying Business and Russian. Originally born in Belarus, Kate loves learning new things, travelling and exploring the world. Apart from Ireland and Belarus, she has lived in Russia and USA as part of her studies. During her time in college she was highly inspired and motivated by the fact that she was strongly supported by Trinity Access Program, which not only gave her an opportunity to study in college, but also kept supporting her all the way through it. Kotova feel like programs like this should become a must not for universities, but for corporate companies as well.

Mike Lyons

Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry
Prof Mike Lyons is Professor and Physical Chemistry of SFI Principal Investigator in the School of Chemistry, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He is a graduate of University College Cork (1979) where he read Chemistry and Mathematical Physics and obtained his Ph.D degree from the same University in 1983 under the supervision of Prof. Declan Burke in metal oxide electrochemistry. He worked with Prof. John Albery and Prof. Brian Steele at Imperial College London on metal oxide electrocatalysis before being appointed to a lectureship in Physical Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin in 1984. He was elected to Fellowship, Trinity College Dublin, in 1992 on the basis of publication and research. Mike has served both on the University Academic Council and Governing Body (Board) of Trinity College, and has been Director of Undergraduate Teaching & Learning and Head of Physical, Computational and Materials Chemistry within the School of Chemistry.

Orla Donoghue

Science Communicator
A passion for how medicines work led Orla Donoghue to complete a PhD in Chemistry and embark on a varied career in pharmaceuticals, clinical trials and biotechnology. But it was her love of writing that made Orla change direction to work in IT as a writer and editor before moving into her role as a science communicator at University College Dublin where she talks to thousands of students annually as they make their college choices. Orla has found that many students are convinced that if they select the wrong course it will impact their future happiness. In this talk, she will share her insights on how we can guide the 70,000 students who apply to third level courses each year so that each student is empowered to find their own unique and fulfilling career path.

Owen Fitzpatrick

Psychologist
Owen Fitzpatrick is a globetrotting Psychologist from Dublin, Ireland. He has travelled to more than 92 countries and delivered talks and courses in more than 27 countries helping them to understand more about how their brain works. Owen has a masters in Applied Psychology, had his own television show on RTE ONE for a couple of years and has spoken on stage with the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Seth Godin and Dr Richard Bandler. He has presented lectures and talks in University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin and the Michael Smurfit Business School. Having travelled as far as countries such as North Korea, Rwanda and Afghanistan for his research, Owen has been fascinated with how propaganda, storytelling and influence works. Co-founder of the Irish Institute of NLP, Owen has spent many years working as a therapist and corporate trainer. A trained actor and screenwriter, he has specialised in the power of stories as a tool to influence.

Sarah Leather

Sarah Leather is a Transformational Coach helping individuals to create the business of their dreams while also having a life. She started her working life a a nurse before qualifying as a Naturopath/Homeopath. Sarah ran her own busy natural health practice for 25 years before doing extensive coaching and business study 12 years ago. Sarah works with groups and individuals teaching them how to create a business full of meaning while making money and having a fulfilling lifestyle. She runs local and international retreats, online courses, local networking events and global Masterminds. Tara Prendergast

Creative Entrepreneur
Tara began her entrepreneurial journey at 19, after quitting her fine art education, recognising the fact it could prove quite difficult to make money from her painting skill. She opted for a start your own business course and opened a restaurant instead. Fast forward 20 years and Tara’s journey has evolved from that decisive moment of putting down her paint brush. Choosing an interesting path of working with start-ups, opening two businesses and travelling the world something never left her mind: Why is it so difficult for Creative people to make money from their craft? Tara sold her last business in 2012 and moved to Dublin where she began to help small businesses with their social media platforms. Over a two-year period, Tara decided to launch a niche Brand to the creative space, aligning her age-old passion for the Creative sector. The brand BISCUIT was born in Jan 2015 and since then has helped over 15 creative entrepreneurs through 1:1 Coaching.
