TEDx Banff was an inspiring, engaging and entertaining sharing of ideas among people from across North America. Speakers included David Warlick (30 Years of Change), Nikos Theodaskis (Why Greeks Break Plates), Paul Bohnert (Youth Power), Dr. Stephen Murgatroyd (Our Next Generation), Joe Clark (CTS in Alberta), Estuardo Toledo (Ultimate Leadership), Ken Chapman (Reboot Alberta), David Hugill (Energy in Alberta). The Banff TEDxers were also treated to Calum Graham on guitar.

Nikos Theodasakis

WHY GREEKS BREAK PLATES — Nikos is a mixed media artist & entrepreneur living in Naramata, British Columbia. His life experiences as author, educator, pho-tographer, musician, filmmaker, film festival producer, lousy actor, husband, father and Greek restaurant owner have created an interesting life of overlapping adventures and explorations. He is an advocate for meaningful education and is the architect of the InStill Life, Preserving Your Culture and The Director in the Classroom projects and author of “The Director in the Classroom”

Paul Bohnert

RESISTING THE 21st CENTURY — RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP Paul is the Executive Director and presentation coordinator for SACEE and SAYEE. Paul has been a public educator for 20 years and has a passion to improve environmental literacy and responsible citizenship in Canada. Over the past three years Paul has focused on how education, business and politics have resisted the 20th century and what impacts that has had on wave of change.

Ken Chapman

REBOOT ALBERTA — CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY Ken is a lawyer, Co-Founder of Cambridge Strategies Inc. a con-summate political animal media commentator and a dedicated blogger. While many look at politics only as lobbying and elec-tions, he sees it as the ultimate expression of citizenship.

Calum Graham

CREATIVE YOUTH — ARTS At 18, Calum has made a significant mark in such a short time. Playing for just 4 years, he is a self taught composer, teacher and performer. He also manages to put on an electrifying stage performance while keeping the groove. Calum won the Canadian Guitar Championship in October.

David Hugill

ENERGY IN ALBERTA/CANADA David is the Western Canada Policy Manager for the Canadian Wind Association (CanWEA). CanWEA is a non-profit trade asso-ciation that promotes the appropriate development and application of all aspects of wind energy in Canada, including the creation of a suitable policy environment.

Dr. Stephen Murgatroyd

OUR NEXT GENERATION = EDUCATION Stephen spent thirty years as an academic in universities in Britain and Canada, rising to senior positions at Athabasca University. Author of twenty five books, over 100 academic papers and a fre-quent broadcaster and journalist, Stephen now consults for gov-ernments, companies and organizations throughout the world. He dedicates part of his activities to school improvement.

Estuardo Toledo

ULTIMATE LEADERSHIP (Changing Lives) Former Home Economics teacher for fifteen years at District 43 Coquitlam B.C. Food professional with over 20 years experience as a chef and hospitality industry, ordained Mennonite minister and formerly the academic chair for culinary programs at SAIT.

Joe Clark

CTS IN ALBERTA—EDUCATION Joseph is a 25 year veteran of CTS. He has working in large and small schools and in the outreaches and offers a unique perspec-tive on CTS. He has worked for Alberta Education in the develop-ment of both the CTS curriculum and its resources.
