In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Fernando Botero

Artist
Fernando Botero was born in Medellín, Colombia in 1932. His firsts paintings and drawings were inspired by Gustave Doré’s engravings of the Divine Comedy, and by posters of bullfights. He had his first exhibition in Bogota in 1951 in Leo Matiz’s gallery, and in 1952 he won second place in the “Salón Nacional de Artistas” in Bogota. He travelled to Madrid and Florence with his prize money, where he studied the exploration of volume and perspective in the Renaissance painters. Throughout his career he has approached a multitude of themes: still lifes, Latin-American life, the Bullfight, the Circus, among others. Today, he is considered the most important living artist in the world; his work has been exhibited in some of the most important museums and places around the world: l’Hermitage (St. Petersburg), Piazza della Signoria (Florence), and he is the only artist who has been invited to exhibit his monumental sculptures in Champs Elysées, in Paris.
