In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

David Robertshaw

Academic Lead for Health and Social Care (University of Derby Online)
David is an Nursing and Midwifery Council Registered Nurse with a background in adult acute care. He currently leads the BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies, MSc Integrative Health and Social Care and UAD Dementia Care courses at the University of Derby Online Learning. During 2015, David developed and taught a massive open online course on dementia entitled ‘Bridging the Dementia Divide’ and recently spoke about his experiences at the Palace of Westminster and in New York City. David is passionate about online learning as a vehicle for social change.

Emma J. Lannie

Writer, Performer, Co Founder of Hello Hubmarine
Emma J. Lannie is a short story writer whose first collection, Behind A Wardrobe In Atlantis, was recently published by Mantle Lane Press. She is a co-founder of Hello Hubmarine, a literature collective who organise events, workshops, and run Derby Writers’ Hub.

Graham Mulholland

CEO at epm technology group
Graham Mulholland is the CEO and Founder of epm: technology group based in a purpose-built 60,000 sq. ft. facility in Derby – a company that is best known for supplying carbon fibre components and assemblies to aerospace, F1 and niche automotive markets.

Kimberley Tew

Owner Roasting House Coffee
Kimberley is the co-owner of Roasting House coffee based in Nottingham. She fell in love with coffee in her late 20’s after discovering that it doesn’t all taste like the bitter instant of her childhood. Since then she’s been seeking out some of the best coffee the world has to offer along with her partner. Together they started Roasting House to share this love of good coffee. As people who try to keep their carbon footprint as small as possible they felt guilty about the food miles involved in transporting coffee beans across the world and so set out to try to reduce the environmental impact of their business as much as possible.

Lucas Pringle

Co-Editor-in-Chief at Rhino Press
Lucas Pringle is a Journalist and Co-editor-in-chief at the student run news organisation Rhino Press. With a passion for youth engagement in politics and news, Lucas has been working with an internationally based team in order to create a news organisation run entirely by students. When he is not writing or editing, Lucas is a keen fan of literature, TED talks and volunteering; he recently completed his qualification as a Youth Champion for the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.

Mark Lorch

Associate Dean for Engagement (University of Hull)
Prof. Mark Lorch is Associate Dean for Engagement and a chemist (the kind that works in a lab, not in Boots) by training at the University of Hull. The University lets him out on a fairly regular basis to communicate science to anyone who wants to listen. With his science communication hat on Mark performs science shows, street entertainment as well churning out articles for numerous magazines and newspapers, including the Guardian. He’s always on the lookout for new mediums in which to communicate the wonders of science, recently this has involved spending a bit too much time playing Minecraft.

Martin Austin

MD Nimbus Disability
Martin is Managing Director and Founder of Nimbus Disability; a consultancy service working across a range of industries providing practical and tangible support in meeting and exceeding legal obligations toward disabled people. A keen sportsman, Martin is Chair and player for Wheelchair Basketball Club Derby Wheelblazers and has also represented Great Britain in Sledge Hockey – the Paralympic version of Ice Hockey

From factory floor to marketing director at Katapult, Martin Broadhurst’s career over the last ten years has been quite the personal journey, but it was a journey to the supermarket that lead Martin to question the power of ideas.

Martin Pashley

Journalist and co-founder of Union Magazine
Martin is the co-founder of Union, an independent print magazine that features in depth journalism and photography from around the world. Union’s main focus is sub cultures and has featured stories on the underground black biker scene in Baltimore, the white squatter camps of South Africa and the fighting festivals of Bolivia. Martin has previously written for a diverse range of titles and his work has appeared in such publications as the Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times, Golf Illustrated and Playboy.

Peter Anderton

The Discovery Expert
A Chartered Engineer who crossed over to the ‘dark side’ of HR at the start of the millennium, his role as the Organisational Development Manager for 3M UK focused on strategy, change, leadership development and coaching – ultimately becoming a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD.

Sally Jane Thompson

Comics writer/artist, illustrator
Sally is a writer/artist working primarily in comics, who believes stories can change people’s lives. Her work includes coffee shop romance The Ruby Equation, with writer Sarah Kuhn for Rosy Press, 19th c adventure serial Red Jack, with writer John Dickinson for children’s comics magazine The Phoenix, and coming-of-age graphic novel Atomic Sheep for AAM Markosia. She also does on-site drawing reportage, particularly for museum sector events, leads workshops, and offers mentoring to women comic creators via the WoMentoring project.

Sarah Cosgriff

STEM Consultant
Sarah is coordinator of the STEMNET programmes in Birmingham and Solihull. Herrole involves working with schools and employers to spread the message about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers. Sarah’s love of science started young and lead onto a brief stint in biology research. After leaving the lab, she found a passion for working with young people and showing them the many opportunities that are open to them by taking STEM subjects at school. Working in STEM doesn’t necessarily mean just being a scientist in a lab – it’s so much more than that!
