In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alberto Pallares

Veterinarian and ecologist
At this point in time Alberto Pallares is the president of the NGO "Planeta Limpio" (Clean Planet) which carries out recycling projects, awareness raising activities and workshops directed towards protecting the earth from contamination.

Andrea María Navarrete

Philosopher and Cyclist
Andrea works as a philosophy professor, however her passion is being an urban cyclist which has led to her becoming an activist promoting cycling, especially among women through the collective "Mujeres Bici-bles".

Andrés Forero

Musician
Andrés is a musician and sound engineer from Bucaramanga. He started playing guitar when he was eleven years old and since then has developed a passion for learning to play a wide array of musical instruments. Since the beginning of 2013 he has been working as a soloist fusing different music genres in what he likes to call PopJazz.

Andrés Felipe Manrique

8th grade student
Andrés is a 14 year old whose passions include research, music and dreaming of seeing a better society one day. He passionately believes that with hard work and small acts this is possible and lives by the saying that it is better to fail trying that to have never tried at all.

Carlos Morantes

Ecologist
Carlos Morantes is part of the Evolutionary Ecology Research team at the National University of Colombia. He looks at evolutionary ecology from a physiology standpoint and believes that mathematics and rigorous quantification provides evolutionary ecology with the necessary tools to be able to plan and project interventions at the community level in order to promote the preservation, restoration and sustainable use of ecological resources.

Edith Alejandra Martín

Medical doctor and surgeon
In addition to being a medical doctor and surgeon, Edith Alejandra is the founder and director of the Transplant and Sport Foundation of Colombia whose purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of donating organs and tissue in order to improve lives including our own. The foundation also promotes sport among transplant recipients as a rehabilitation strategy.

Freddy Barbosa

Photographer
Freddy is a professional photographer with a passion for the natural and cultural landscapes. He has taught photography in a number of universities and other educational institutions. He is also the winner of numerous national and international photography competitions, has had more than 30 shows and has published 2 books.

Jakeline Vargas Parra

Social Worker
Jaqueline is a social worker with a masters degree in public administration. She splits her time between being a researcher with the Institute for Political Studies at the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga and a founding and active member of the NGO CreSer. CreSer is currently carrying out a project called "I will go to bat for you" which uses all forms of the arts to prevent the sexual exploitation of boys and girls in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

Julio César Salazar Estupiñan

Educator
Julio César is a primary school art teacher as well as a robotics teacher and a participant in the Colciencias "Waves" program. The chocolate mathematics program arose out of a need to involve both parents and students in an activity which would enable them to increase their mathematics skills and their research skills.

La Purnia Campesina

Farmers, ecologists, photographers
The Purnia Campesina is a community based organization that seeks to develop the agricultural community located in the hamlet of "La Purnia". This is done through supporting education, agricultural extension, income generation projects, scholarships, marketing, training to increase the productivity of the small farms, improved housing, and in general anything related to the development of an agricultural community with scarce resources.

Laura Rocío González Rincón

University Student
Laura carries journalism in her head and theatre in her heart. She considers herself to be a sensitive woman in the best sense of the word.

Luis Fernando Sanmiguel

Educator
Luis is a high school teacher in Oiba, Santander who teachers computer literacy and applied research. He has worked on a bioreactor filter, technical education in a local hamlet and a proposal for integrating science, academia and the state.

Miguel Ángel López Usma

Jazz composer, performer and music therapist
Miguel Lou is a graduate of the Berklee Music School at Harvard and has been named as one of the best Latin American saxophonist in the Jazz genre. In addition, he has been trained in neuroscience and music therapy which he applies in Colombia with youth in an effort to recover their true identities.

Milo Butterick

Volunteer with Goals for Peace
Milo is part of a group of volunteers with Goals for Peace, an NGO that works with children and youth in the neighborhood Olas II Bucaramanga. The mission of Goals for Peace is to create a space in which children and youth are able to develop values and skills through playing sport and artistic activities.

Nathalia López Quintero

Photographer
Trained in international marketing and business. She is a permanent student in the university of life and loves travel, her family, adventures, her friends, creativity, imagination and getting to know strangers. At the moment she is working to humanize Bucaramanga through the lens of her cell phone camera and the words of strangers who have become friends.

Ricardo Oviedo

Musician and Social Activist
Ricardo is a musician dedicated to building a culture of afro caribbean and island rhythms from around the world in Bucaramanga. He is also working with the members of the Fortaleza Leoparda Sur 1998, a group of football hooligans that follows Atlético Bucaramanga, in order to promote reflection and change through education and music.
